  • Well guards are the easiest position to fill in basketball. Big men are much harder just like OL and DL in football. Danny thought he could take a shooter (Curfman) and make him a PG. when that didn't work he thought he could take a 6'9" kid and make him a PG. and don't say he got blindsided by Taylor leaving late because the staff begged him to go after a PG in case Andy left and he wouldn't do it. Now CJ has been trying but hasn't had any luck which baffles me. We haven't had a true PG that could really run the team and create since Elmore. And before that it was probably Pitts. Amazing!!!

There are levels to guard play.  It is a craft and the point guards skill (craftsmanship) directly correlates to winning.  You?ll never see a team go far in a tournament without outstanding guard play, it?s critical.

One of the best examples of what I?m talking about is the impact of Allie Beeman for our women.  Yes, styles make fights and they make games as well.  A team with 3 talented big men can beat you if you can?t defend them and we take low percentage shots and their bigs take high percentage
shots all game, so we have to have bigs as well.

Correct me if I?m wrong but when Florida Atlantic made the final four, did they have a big man that did anything significant?  I watched them and all I remember is outstanding guard play.

  • While "P5"s have 8, 9's, & 10's...other upper "G5's" (Sun Belt teams included) can get 7 & 8's (which is where we SHOULD be). The other half of "G5's" can get 5's & 6's (what I'm ok ending up with on down years 2 seasons a decade). We are over here with a room of 2, 3's, & 4's consistently. It's mind boggling the ineptitude. Again I just don't know how for a decade 1/4th of the FCS and about 1/10th of DII is out recruiting us at the QB position. There are no words. It's beyond pathetic.

FAU had productive center and forwards during final 4 run.  But lots of good guards.

I?m not disputing you.  I just wanted to look up the stats when I got home.

On the 2023 final four team (they only lost on a buzzer beater) of their 7 top scorers, 6 were guards.  Their Center was the number 2 scorer on the team.

  • They only used 2 bigs and alternated them. Everyone else was 6'4" and under. 4 guards were in the floor at all times. They had about 8 guards that played. Davis, greenleaf, Boyd, Forest, garnet, martin and wearherspoon. Goldin and rosado were the 2 canters and never played at the same time. So there were always 4 players on the floor under 6'4" at all times. Guards are a must!!!

  • Back to Football?..why hasn?t Huff brought back EK, BL, Cato and CP, to institute a National QB clinic to attract HS Qb?s around the Nation? What experience each brings with each approach to the game of Football. Each are experienced Champions!!!
Thoughts anyone? Please add suggestions that will enhance the Marshall experience.
