Did Huff have the same AD his entire tenure at MU?

Hamrick gave Huff his Walmart jersey, Spears was 2-3 months later, Smith was announced just before Huff was but Huff was hired already.  They wanted Smith's official acceptance of Huff for the public.

Bottom line...the coach deserted his team right before they had a chance to earn their reward and play in a bowl game.

What does this say to the players? I really don't care about you.

What do the players learn from their coach? It's OK to desert your team and put the I in team.

Is that the coach you want running your program?  And yes it happens everywhere but the question is still the same.

And that job, or an assistant's position, would have been available anytime after Dec. 1.  He wasn't going to stay without a contract under his terms.

And understand, money was never the issue.  We were willing to pay him as much or more than what he got at Southern Miss.  It was the lack of a buyout, with its implied future threat to leave, that was the sticking point.  Southern Miss didn't see it as much of an impediment, but watch him leave quickly if he has any kind of success down there.  If he waits until 12/1/2025, his buyout is only $750k - that's peanuts.

I don;t understand why so many on this board do not realize this.

I also don't understand why many are convinced 1-11 what is always going to be and that Souhern Miss does have the potential to become a good program.

Blame can be cast all around.  In my opinion Marshall had an obligation to field a team and play Army.  The way I see it is that Marshall's administration flipped a proverbial middle finger to Army, to the Independence Bowl, and to the AAC.  We obviously had at least 25-30 bodies to field a team and give some good experience to those who would appreciate it.  I just never thought I'd see a day where Marshall would just raise the white flag, going down without a hearty, albeit, out-manned, fight!  I'm not a Hannan High School graduate but I always admired them fielding a varsity football team with maybe 15-18 players and giving it their all, knowing they had little chance of winning.  I think when we turned down the bowl it became the second darkest day in Marshall history.

This right here. If you got the bodies, play ball. If you have to play ironman football and play both ways so be it. It?s one game and would gain much respect from the public. Instead MU sh!ts the bed once again and is getting blasted around the country for it. I really feel for Gibson because I?m sure this isn?t the situation he thought he would be stepping in to.

Part two is because they were always the team that did more with less, but money is a bigger factor now more than ever and they are playing catchup.  Even with NIL and money for a coach they still have one of the smaller budgets in the Sun Belt.  They've not made the incremental increases many of the other programs have over the same timeframe.  It is their mindset that holds them back, not their coaches.  Huff will find this out when he goes to do something he needs to do and is told they don't have the money for that.  He thought the program was poor here?  Wait till he has $10M less to work with per year.  He's not far removed from Alabama money, caught a dose of reality here, and now went straight to the po' house.

I'd bet they find out a winning coach will struggle there rather than finding out all they needed was a different coach.
