  • Final Attend at UAB

    12,344 Paid
    8,643 Attend

Sounds like a MAC game. I thought maybe just maybe where they were playing in an 80K seat stadium the attend was higher. My hopes were dashed

I think those figures are being generous.  I was thinking around 2-4K.

  • The might've challenged that record on Saturday if not for the Herd Faithful.  On TV the stadium looked empty.

You could hear the "We Are Marshall" cheer on the radio in the background.

  • I think they are giving them a few, the stadium looked completely empty.  I think we had more fans there then they did.

  • I was there with the family for the game last night and was shocked how empty the stadium was.  Local Hoover High School football attendance is better than that.  Part of the reason may be the location of Legion field which is basically downtown Birmingham getto.  On a positive note, I think there was almost as many Marshall fans as UAB fans there, and lots of open space in the parking lot for tailgating and tossing a football around.

One observation . . . UAB fires off 4 large mortar shells from the endzone when the Blazers score.  I'm betting mamma govt. in Huntington wouldn't allow the same, but wouldn't it be great to see the Herd shooting off their own big fireworks from the North End Zone off the Shewey Bldg roof?

Everyone was still at home watching he other University of Alabama on TeeVee. If the Tide's game has started at noon there would have been a bigger crowd.

You are most likely correct like MAC teams 80% of the fans are Alabama fans.

It wasn't all that long ago that the Tide played a lot of home games in Birmingham. Makes sense that there would be a lot of old time 'Bama fans there.

  • We had a local High School game in Roanoke Friday night which had between 7,000 and 8,000 in attendance.  Sad a University can't draw  more. Has to be a challenge recruiting.
I don't like to lose, and that isn't so much because it is just a football game, but because defeat means the failure to reach your objective. I don't want a football player who doesn't take defeat to heart, who laughs it off with the thought, 'Oh, well, there's another Saturday.' The trouble in American life today, in business as well as in sports, is that too many people are afraid of competition. The result is that in some circles people have come to sneer at success if it costs hard work and training and sacrifice.- Knute Rockne

  • In our small area, Graham-Beaver averages 10,000+ and Princeton-Beaver averages 7-8,000.
In the middle of Huntington, West Virginia, there is a river. Next to this river, there is a steel mill. And next to the steel mill, there's a school. In the middle of this school, there's a fountain. Each year, on the exact same day, the exact same hour, the water to this fountain is turned off. And in this moment, once every year, throughout the town, throughout the school, time stands still.

I felt like I was back at Akron last night at the game. Minus the wind and cold.

  • UAB was one of those teams that got into 1A football thanks to their good basketball program.

South Florida was the other one.

Actually they both got in the same reason UConn got in the BE. They were both charter members of CUSA that didn't play football at the time. UConn always had an agreement with the BE if they moved up to IA they had a straight shot to the BE.

UAB and USF spent 3 yrs in IAA before moving to IA in CUSA. Its sad but if we would have had an affilation in someway with the BE we could have done the same thing UConn done.
