MU-WVU appearson path to realizationSome day in the foreseeable future Marshall and West Virginia will resume their dormant football series, "with games in both cities." This from Marshall interim president Michael J. Farrell who, in our telephone conversation Friday, said "an ongoing dialogue is already in progress."Cheers! The Mountaineers’ refusal to play in Huntington as part of a proposed series when Marshall moved into NCAA Division I-A was the kicker (pardon the pun) in those negotiations. Unlike the MU-WVU basketball series there isn’t a suitable neutrally located football stadium handy. The athletic directors, MU’s Bob Marcum and WVU’s Ed Pastilong, met in Pastilong’s home two years ago, on their own, to reestablish "our warm friendship," as Marcum said at the time. Off the record, of course. But, Don Nehlen, WVU’s retired football coaching legend whose end coach at Canton McKinley High School was Marcum, applauded. Quietly.I mean, you could look it up.http://www.herald-dispatch.com/2005/January/15/MUcol1.htm
