  • By now, Griffin, Charles, Hill, Davis, Terrell and Atkins (as well as possibly a few others) should be on their cel phones trying to line up free agent deals. They say they get sewn up quickly these day...good luck to them. Butchie, Poole, Yates, and Rader have all drawn some decent paychecks going that way.  Still scratching my head on JD....would have thought he would have fit somewhere.

Marshall extends its streak with at least one player drafted to what...six years
    2000:  Pennington, Beckett, Chapman, Williams
    2001:  Toviessi
    2002:  Massey
    2003:  Leftwich, Scullio
    2004:  Watts
    2005:  Goddard

We'll have to see about next year...no sure fire draft pick, but a lot of guys in the secondary who could have a shot of jumping up the board pretty high.

  • I think Keyes and Royal if they step it up, could be drafted.  I also think that Hawkins, if he turns out to be the kind of player he was hyped to be, could also be looked at.

  • Personally I am not surprised that J.D. was not drafted. His senior year was not that great. The other receivers on the field were not that great. Teams doubled up Josh and took him out of many games. There was no other receiver on the team that was a solid threat like we have had in recent years- Watts, Marriott. The disappointing thing about J.D.'s senior season was all the dropped balls on critical situations. I wish him nothing but the best and hopefully he can play his way on to a team and be successful.

Royal will be a 6th-7th rounder at best. Way undersized to play safety in the NFL.

Keyes is only going to be a junior, won't be in a position to leave early.

Willie Smith if he steps up his game, with his size, could me a mid round pick...

We'll have to see about Hawkins.

  • Nice message bbcard.  I too wish all our our young men well on their bid to get into the NFL.

However, unlike you I wasn't surprised about JD.  There were WAAAYYY too many dropped balls in '04.  And he dropped balls in key situations.  Had nothing to do with him being double covered.  The ball was in his hands, and he dropped it.  Who knows?  A catch here and there in a big situation could have positively impacted our record - could have enhanced Stan's stats some too.

Wish him luck as I believe he's a much better player than his '04 performance demonstrated.

  • Royal is very small to play safety in the NFL, but he is full of talent.  If he works on his speed, he might play cornerback.  The guy is just a ballhawk.  You could say that Keyes, who is a junior, is undersized.  But I bet if you asked around the MAC, many people would say that if he was any bigger, there would be less offensive football players from other schools.  I would hate to think of the beating he would dish out if he weighed 20 more pounds.  Casket sales would definitely go up.  He is quite possibly the best hitter I've ever seen, but I'm a lil' partial.

We could have helped his cause had we kept him in the slot.  Davis is a slot receiver and can catch balls at an angle or over the middle.  Last year, we played to his weakness.  X and Z receivers have to catch balls over their shoulder while trying to out run the corners.  Not a good place for him.

  • Blade, this is a good post, and a very good point. Josh, did drop way too many balls last year, but if he would have been in the slot, he would have been more comfortable, and he does seem to be a natural there. Thanks, for calling our attention to this.

    GO THUNDERINGHERD!

Good Luck, to all our Herd players in the NFL.

  • Josh was the #2 reciever in the NCAA alltime and didn't get drafted.  But niether did the #1 receiver in the NCAA all time.   I actually thing a team that could be competitive in 3-5 years could be made from the guys who didn't get drafted.  I think it was a little weaker at the top, but very deep.

Any how, Munoz, Davis, Chang, Bryan Randall (ACC player of the year) were just a few of the guys who did not hear their name called.
