  • Kueck needs to go tonight. 4th and 3 and go for a 15 yard out play. We dominated them with the run and we go with a medium pass. I have stayed very quiet about him, but enough is enough.

  • I cannot believe that play call at the end of the game.  I promise you I, nor the college football world, has witnessed stupidity like this.  High school coaching could do better.  I am sick.

  • I would love to be the fly on that wall at the coaches meeting at the end of the game. Hopefully, that was Bernie's last option and that was not the designed play. Why are we not looking for Passmore or Slate? Bottom line is that we make too many mistakes. Is it coaching or just we aren't very good? I'd say a whole lot of both. Let's chalk it up to experience and move on. The ball has to bounce our way eventually.

I am not or ever have been a fb player or coach, but as a viewer I would say that the DB's and LB's were playing tight, guarding against the short pass  and run and the safeties were playing deep to keep from getting burned deep, which would have left a 10-15 yd pass play open.  From the looks of how BM was in Edmondson's face after the play, it looked like he wasn't where he should have been.

  • It's pretty simple really if you would care to take the time to look at the play.  We lined up two receivers to the left side of the formation with the inside guy clearing the underneath route for Cody who was lined up on the wing.  When the corner jumped the flat that Cody was running, Edmonson was supposed to break his route off to fill the void left by the corner.  Instead he followed the inside receiver across the middle of the field.

Needless to say, Edmonson didn't have a very good outing and I would expect to see his playing time decrease as a result.

The freakin ball hasn't bounced our way at all in 5 games.  I've been there and watched it bounce the other way.  The Gods are not on our side.  I keep asking myself WHY?

  • The offensive play-calling stunk, but you know what I really loved?  I loved we had them 3rd and goal from the 19 yard line and they run a 5 yard drag and the guy scores untouched.  Pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i am really upset at the playcaling tonight. We line up in the I and we run it down there throats. I was happy we are moving the ball on the ground wearing them down. Then we go back to that read option. Yes we got a couple of good runs out of it, but more often then not we did not. The passing attack was aweful. More often then not Cody stayed to block. What happend to lining him up at a true tight end spot and making a LB cover him.  And that last series we have 3 timeouts and never ran the ball once. That 4th and 3 call was just aweful.

  • i don't remember kueck running a lot of option until snyder got here.

the fact of the matter is, if snyder's recruits marshall (don't fumble) and edmondson (catch ball that was picked, and run correct route) we likely win the game.

personnaly, i would have tried a lower risk play on the 4th and 3, but i'll be you loved that play when it was leftwich to watts, davis, or marriott.  edmondson should have run the right route.  however, it shouldn't be a big surprise, the guy would have cost us a TD with a block in the back had it not been for the hold.  EXECUTE the play.

kueck has had plenty of success running offenses, until the last few years, hmmmmmmm

cry about coaches all you want, at some point these boys have to E X E C U T E.

  • your right the boys have to execute. But as a OC you dont give your self a chance to kill a drive. Honestly if we would have ran for it and not got it I would not have been as upset.
Who's idea was it to install the read option system?

You can honestly say that if we would have ran the football and not made it you would have been fine with it.  Not me!  I know I am satisifed with the play that was called you just have to execute.  Memphis made the decision to take away Slate in the falt (and rightly so) which changed Bernie's read to the corner.  Too bad Edmonson didn't run the route because the play was there.

To me running the ball would have been the most conservative of calls and sometimes, no often times, that is our problem.  We have been running too concervative of an offensive gameplan in order to be successful.  Is that Snyder's fault or that of Kueck?  That's for them to know and us to talk about.

    Right on Bro!

I've always thought Kuecks biggest problem is following the advice/orders of his super-conservative boss.

  • When we lined up in the I we dominated.  Look at that play again. Darius Marshall is wide open in the flat with no one around him. We could have ran a delayed hand off and got the 3 yards. Could have thrown the ball in the flat.  On a 4th and 3 you go with your best play period. And we did not do that. Looked to me we were going for the knock out punch right there.

  • everybody is talking about the offensive lack of production, why in the hell are we not talking about our shoddy defense? at times during the game we looked really confused.... at times it was is if there were no defensive players on the field for us. i know we have had injuries, but this is D-1A football. every player is an injury away from being a starter, everyone should be ready to play when called upon. I personally am not a Snyder fan. I know the school wanted him because of his roots and the public relations upside, but what we need is a successfull program. I bleed green, win lose or draw. The upsetting part of all of this is the rest of MU homegames will not be a big draw, because of all of the Part-Time herd fans that live in huntington. The ones that only support MU when we are winning.

Regardless, I just don't think you run the ball in that situation.  I will have to look at the play again because I don't remember seeing Marshall open out of the backfield.  I just noticed Cody's route into the flat and the corner jumping him leaving the corner route wide open.  When Bernie released the ball I thought he was throwing to Cody and I was thinking "oh no he isn't deep enough for the first down".

I do remember when we threw the fade to Milligan that Marshall was wide open in the flat with nobody within gunshot of him and the endzone.

  • MarshallManinSC, let me answer your question.   In order to be a good defense you have to practice against a good offense.  The only team our defense gets to practice against is our own.   If our offense is lousy there is no way our defense will be ready to play against a good offense.  You simply cannot simulate the other teams plays on film, you have to go up against good offensive linemen, good receivers, good QB, etc. to prepare yourself to play against good opposition.  If you are consistantly beating the OL in front of you in practice you will assume you are going to do so in the game.  But when the game starts the opposing OL are much better blockers and you are simply not prepared to beat them off the ball.  The same holds true for defending WRs.  If the QB you face in practice is slow to react and stares down WRs it is easy to defend the pass.  But the game starts and now the opposing QB is quick to read the defense and finds open receivers all over the field.

If you want an example of this other than here at MU just look at WVU.  They excel against the run but struggle against the pass.  Why?  Because they run the ball very well but are not a great passing team.  Ergo, their defense does not get to practice against a high powered passing attack like Louisville's and they struggle to adapt when the game starts.

  • I've been watching Marshall football since 1964.  The Memphis game was, in my estimation, the worst example of inept coaching I have ever seen.
There was no fire in the team, poor game preparation, poor adjustments made, poor communication between coaches and coaches and players during the game, fundamentals (tackleing, pass catching, etc.)were lacking, seemingly little or no leadershiip from the head coach, and a look of no confidence and bewilderment on Coach Snyder's face for most of the game......and I'm sure his players are able to see and sense these things too.  Either Coach Snyder is in over his head, is inept in his coaching abilities, or has put his faith in assistant coaches who are not doing their jobs...but, he's the boss, and he has to either straighten this thing out, or resign.  There is nothing wrong with losing football games, but, not the way the Memphis game was lost.
