Patience has been the theme of Patrick Pinkney’s career at East Carolina.

A prized recruit out of Pine Forest High in Fayetteville, N.C., Pinkney was highly regarded for his athleticism. He was an all-stater and an all-star as a senior for the Trojans, passing and rushing for over 1,000 yards.

But his ECU career was immediately slowed when he redshirted as a freshman in 2004 with a sore throwing shoulder. A year later, he reinjured the shoulder and needed surgery to repair the damage.

So, three years into his college career, Pinkney had yet to take a snap (sans the JV game he played in as a freshman; he was, however, later granted a medical redshirt).

All the while, Pinkney maintains he was never frustrated.

“I was fine,” the East Carolina junior said Tuesday in a phone interview. “I was just patient, waiting for my turn to play. I was just waiting for the opportunity.”

That opportunity finally came this year. When starter Rob Kass was arrested for DUI prior to the season opener at Virginia Tech, it was Pinkney who got the nod in his place.

  • I'm a little confused with this Pinkney kid.

I thought sure he had been the starter for a couple of years. Did he not play against us the last two years or so?

I'm positive I seen "a Pinkney" at QB for ECU last year or the year before. (Maybe both years.)

Is this a different Pinkney kid at QB? Is this article a typeo? Could it be I'm losing my mind and not really married to Selma Hayek? ???  ;D
