How do you define our "spread offense"?

  • I guess in my mind we haven't had a true spread since IAA 95

  • We need someone who can save next season in a hurry.

Someone with a proven track record and perhaps a star recruit or two he can bring with him.

Go back and watch some of the game tape from then - you'll be amazed at how many times Chris Parker got the ball.
I think '96 through the end of the Byron era was the real "spread" offense - four wides, quite a bit of the time. Most of the time, three wide and a tight end.

  • We need someone to come in with something simple his first year then bring in the more complicated schemes etc.  If we have something complicated next year our qb's will struggle.

  • I was told two weeks ago that it was going to be Tony Peterson.  Just a rumor I am sure.

  • During QB Club meetings, Coach Snyder talks disparagingly about all variations of the spread offense.

He's probably refering to EER highs run spread vs our old 4 wideout version...
What do you call a place where the coaches are drunks, the players pistol whip local citizens and the fans mug and rob expecting mothers ? You call it - THE FLAGSHIP PROGRAM IN THE STATE OF WV!!! Ollie Luck AD

  • Seems to me run-spread teams have had some success and shouldn't be blown off simply because they're "different" and "not recognizable".

The NCAA continues to limit practice time.  The run-spread offense is easy to teach and easy to pick up.   Complicated offenses can be installed much more easily in the NFL because their practice time is unlimited.

I'm not saying we should install a run-spread.  I'm just saying that type of offense shouldn't be dismissed simply because it's not "standard".  Run-spread offense won the national championship last year and will probably be playing for it this year.  It has won the last three C-USA championships (Houston, Tulsa, Louisville).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that when Snyder was hired he talked about running the spread option, a la Urban Meyer. Sounds like he has changed his mind.
I'll lay money that we get a pro style offense with new OC.

  • Does WVU have a suitable OC candidate amongst their ranks? Perhaps we could steal away an assitant coach from there (or someone who defected) and have them teach the spread offense to our team. If anything, it will give our defense an edge in  the WVU game.lol

Plus, if we could steal away a WVU bound recruit (or get a transferfor 2009) it would be a total cherry on top.

I'd be hesitant about hiring someone that works for a coach like RR, June Jones, Mike Leach, etc. They're control freaks with the offense and usually do not involve their offensive assistants with game-planning and/or play calling.

Assuming that to be true, we could possibly steal someone away from the defensive side. They didn't have the greatest d this year but that is really a talent issue rather than coaching.

Admittedly, I just like to dream of us somehow stealing away a star recruit and being able to laugh about it.  ;D
