  • I agree.  I really like the approach they're taking this year.  As I said in another post, they look very organized in what they're doing.  I really liked their rotations on defense.  They were very aggressive in helping the dribbler, but they're not so out of control that they're getting out of position by being overzealous to help.  Their rebounding was dominant tonight.

  • From what I have heard about Goode, he is extremely light on this feet with good movement and speed.  Jones is trying to get some weight off him so he will be better.  Imagine a guy that big that can outrun you or jump over you.  One word for CUSA- "pain".

    It doesn't look to me like he has lost much weight so far. He is a BRUISER, that is for sure.

  • I think Donnie is doing just about all he can to get us where we want to be.  He's got a boatload of problems, though, including:

    (a) a lack of proven talent left by the former staff;
    (b) insufficient funds to run the program and not many prospects to help that issue;
    (c) 2nd tier facility;
    (d) little recruiting base;
    (e) no much recent history to show recruits (do you think any 17 year old knows or cares who Skip Henderson was?);
    (f) a much tougher conference than Rick Huckabay had to deal with.

    Question -- will the "faithful" be satisfied with 18-20 wins/year and finishing in the top 4-6 in C-USA?  I think that's a goal that we should aspire to at this point in our development, but I wonder....

  • agreed about the lack of talent left for DJ, but from the games i've seen, he's been doing a fantastic jobs coaching some of the "less" talented folks on the team.  baines and humphrey are studs, the rest are fillers.  our facilities are fine and the talent in the area is obviously available (OJ, Bill Walker, Patterson, etc) its just a question of getting them to come the Marshall.  Tough next two games for the boys too, we'll see how they respond with both being on the road as well...

    If DJ stays with the team, I could see us in the NIT and maybe even the NCAA in 2 years.

    That 'available talent' was an aberration.  I'll bet you can't name 10 D1 prospects (other than Bill, O.J. and Patrick) that have come out of southern WV in the past 10 years.
