Topic: Liberty Bowl and the SEC?

Juicy matchup for Liberty Bowl?:

The Southeastern Conference is considering a shuffled bowl lineup in the near future. That's not an uncommon occurrence, but a change could create some local intrigue.

The Liberty Bowl is one of the bowls looking into associating itself with the SEC, and that poses some interesting possibilities - at least for schools in Alabama - if the Liberty Bowl also continues its alliance with Conference USA.

How about Alabama or Auburn playing UAB? How about Mike Price and his UTEP team coming to Memphis to play Alabama?

Think there would be some interest around here for one of those matchups?

Well then the LB is going to have to pony up another $1.4M.  Right now, the LB ranks 6th in SEC allied bowls.

Sugar - $13.5M
Capital One - $5.125M
Cotton - $3M
Outback - $2M
Peach - $1.6M
Liberty - $1.3M

The Liberty would be in line to take the Music City bowl SEC#6/7.  Last year it was a 6-6 Alabama.

The LB would have a better chance to get a #4 ACC team or a #2/3 BE team but I doubt we could go as high as a #4 SEC.  jmo.

Therein lies the conundrum.  CUSA's champion goes to the Liberty Bowl.  Do you really want to match your champion up against a 6-6 team?  I doubt it.

Liberty can hope for no better than SEC #5 for many reasons.

But #5 would be good and you can bet SEC #5 would not be 6-6.  The problem is would that trump the Peach for #5?  That's a pretty strong bowl in a SEC market that always has a great crowd.

Once you get below 5 it's iffy and a wouldn't put my champ vs #6.

Would be better if Liberty was on during day just because weather in Memphis has been cold that time of year.

The SEC doens't rank their bowl teams 3-whatever.  They send the team to the best matchup.  A 6-6 Alabama team would never play UAB because the SEC wouldn't want to show a chink in their armor.  Ole Miss finished ahead of Bama (6-6) 2 or 3 years ago at 7-5 equal conference records with Eli Manning and was left home due to Bama's "prestige."

Wouldn't it be great if Memphis had a domed stadium? If they upped their payout to $2 million, and had a domed stadium. They would become at least a very competitive player over night.
