    An uplifting approach
cochran has quickly earned credibility as herd’s new strength coach

By ANTHONY HANSHEW - The Herald-Dispatch

HUNTINGTON -- An informal sampling of Marshall football players tells the tale of their new strength and conditioning coach.

Mention Mike Cochran, and student-athletes shake their heads and laugh. The reaction is usually accompanied by some sort of testimony, detailing Cochran’s strict regimen.

It is usually told in some form of, "He is wearing us out. … but in a good way."

  • Thanks for reminding us through your post, how good this fellow seems to be. We need to step up, with some additional funding so we might keep this fellow.

  • This guy is the bomb. I saw him at work before they started tearing up the turf and he is very high energy. We needed it.

  • This guy seems like the real deal.  I think we will see a big difference in the way our team looks, and in the way it plays.  I expect a team that is much stronger, and more physical for 4 qtrs.
Just wait till he's had his program in place for a full year!!

  • I look for the lines to improve dramatically with this guy in charge of strength and conditioning.

  • Yeah, no more tubs of fat playing on the field.  Just shows what the last guy was doing......nothing.  There is no way the new guy would have let the line get that fat!!  Should have been fired at the beginning of last season.

Man, you've said everything that I've been wanting to say for the last two years!  Not singling anybody out but it was obvious that our offensive line was out of shape.  I mean. what good is mass if you don't have the speed, strength and stamina to play all 4 quarters?  WVU made starting center, Jeremy Hines loose weight last year.  It was either that or not play--he lost the weight.

  • this strength coach is the "shot in the arm" the program needs to get back on track...I remember reading Coach Donnan's book and he mentioned that the 1ST thing he did to start his program was to bring in a strength coach...

Only time will tell if the the strength coach is the "real" deal....
