IF PROVEN GUILTY, then there's really no need for further discussion. IMO, the crime is simply too serious for Marshall to look the other way or offer a "second chance". Again, IF PROVEN GUILTY, I'm sure Mr. Morris will get his "second chance" at another university - and I wish him luck, but Marshall will have no other choice but to excuse him. That kind of behavior - whether he's a first rate guy or a first rate A-Hole -- simply can not be tolerated.
Strange, but many universities can assess situations like this without the use of a jury trial.
As much as we like these players because of their athletic ability, we have to realize the disappointment of the 2004 season could have been a product of too many "second chances". Last year, the Herd had a great team with great talent, but still finished 6-6. The first non-winning season since 1984. The reason, IMO (also the opinion of many others), the lack of leadership, the lack of character. We were fortunate to find young men like lefty, Penny, Troy Brown and many of our other former players. They had heart, desire, class and were leaders. They were leaders because they led by example . The example was a great one.... not one of the barroom brawler.
I'm sure Marshall had many great young men on the team that were of great character and exhibited that character. It's ashame they were overshadowed by those that chose to disregard team policy. Hopefully, next year's team can correct that situation - get their minds back in the game... back on the field.
GO HERD!!!!
