  • So I was thinking about this thge otherday.  We signed both Shannon and Minter to two year deals and they are up at the end of this year.  It was rumored both were looking around this past year, Snyder has taken overcalling the defense and Shannon is a prick and everyone knows it.  There is good chance we could lose both our coordinators and have to replace them for next year.  What do you guys think and do you think it will hurt us if/when Snyder is retained?

  • No I don't think it will hurt us,  it obvious Synder has his own offensive theory,  which we have seen in the past five years,  doesn't matter who has the title...

  • I'd be more concerned with how recruiting would be affected.

Thats a good point as well.  I think it is going to be a problem that no one seems to be thinking about.  Its obvious Snyder can handle the defense but we still need an offensive guy.

If Snyder stays, I'd like to see some QB coach from a I-A program.  Maybe Tony Peterson would like to come back for a year or two?

  • A new coaching staff will bring their own ideas and schemes.  They will recruit players that fit those ideas and schemes.  They may want some of Snyder and Company recruits and some they will not want.  So long as the head coach and cooridnators are good recruiters they will be fine.  Recruiting is one of the most important aspects in college football if not the most important therefore the coaching staffs ability to recuit is extremely important.

  • We really need to get back to having a wide open offense. The Ohio State way of playing offense just isnt working for us. I dont think we can or at least have under Snyder recruited the big boys up front to where we can just line up and blow the other team off the ball. Marshall football has for the past 30 years been about having an open offense where its a more balanced attack. We usually have good QB's who can get it to quick WR's to make plays. Under MS we have had lackluster QB's and WR's thus far so its been 75% about the run game and we just dont have the horses right now to win games in that OSU manner.

A good coach realizes what you have and adapts. We need to get better athletes on the O side of the ball and get back to throwing the pill around more than we have recently.

IMO if he's retained, they are both back unless they leave on their own accord.

You're probably right.  But, the defense has done well enough that Minter will be in more demand than Shannon.  He'd be the one that could leave if either of them do (provided that Snyder is here).

  • I don't think Minter will be back next year.  With any luck Shannon will leave as well.  If Snyder is retained maybe he should strongly consider adding Minter's pay to Shannon's pay and hiring a really good OC.  Maybe keep some of the money back and hire an extra assistant on defense or a QB coach.  If Snyder is already calling the plays and spending his time in practice with the defense what does the Herd need a DC for?  Snyder would just take the position over like he has with Minter.

  • Did you know that 3 of ECU coaches worked under Minter at Cinncinati.  I figure if Minter gets mad he'll go work for Skip.  The Holtz's love him anyway.

We'll be able to get a couple good coords  we pay 185K now.

We havent heard about any contract negotiations we most likely wont but it seems to me somethign would leak out.  Timing is key.  I dont know when their contract is up but if its AFTER signing day that will hurt, if its before we need to have someone in place ASAP.

  • I think the administration has figured out if the public finds out there are contract re-negotiations going on with any football coach before this season is over the administrators themselves could be negotiating new contracts at another school when it's all said and done.  Can you imagine the outrage of Herd fans if it was announced that the assistant football coaches just reached a new 2 or 4 year contract to coach at Marshall.  It wouldn't be as bad as if they announced a Snyder contract extension but it would be bad.

They will be under contract thru the end of June.

  • I would think it would be a very favorable condition that if a new head coach was hired, they would get the choice of their own major coordinators from the beginning.

Isn't it amazing under Snyder its always the coordinators at fault? the problem is Marc Snyder always 'micromanaging" and tying coordinators hands,, my good friend Larry Kueck was a prime example, his offenses is what took us to the next level. In fact coach Pruett always credit Kuecks offense and said he would never change it.. and he didnt change it, until Snyder took over and we have seen the results.......

or if skip leaves ecu, then minter might be interested in that job or go work with skip at the new school

  • I seriously doubt Minter is back. I hope Shannon goes as well. Hire Tony Peterson or an FCS OC who likes to throw the ball.

  • I dont see how Snyder could recruit very well with both co's leaving and only having maybe a 6-6 record to finish this season with. We would be better off with the excitement of a new coach coming in to offset that.

  • ANY OC is likely going to fashion his offense around Graham at some point, who certainly is not BL...more of a Michael Vick scrambler/playmaker--or even Pat White...and that's whether the coach is Snyder or someone else is the HC...as for DC, I look for Minter to go elsewhere, regardless...I'm sure it's hard for a guy who had a long run as the head man at UC to defer to someone who has his own ideas...after all, he and Weis apparently didn't work, either...
