  • i agree, the final four team, Butler, which resides in Indiana, is indeed a classy team.

  • An old woman suffers a heart attack....this stuff and the pain that surrounds these real life events makes almost every complaint on this board a spec of dust in comparison. She found something that makes her happy and Butler is a class guy for helping to make her day better than it would have been. WVU obsessions take a way back seat to the reality of what she is going through and what the young man did for her. If you only see gold and blue in this picture you don't get it.

  • Very good story.  Butler is a very good kid...Beilein wouldn't have recruited him otherwise.

  • It just comes to show the fans support you when you're not even playing. The love they have for their athletes rivals the love they have with some of their own family. After reading this I have the utmost respect for Butler and am glad he conducts himself off the court with class. Just shows he cares about his fans and will be someone to look up to for younger generations.

  • I believe he also said what a fine team Marshall has after the game with them.  This is the type behavior that makes you respect this young man and realize that he is a Belien recruit.

  • I don't mean to pee in anyone's Cheerios, but how do we go from saying this kid's a class act to bashing the team he plays for? I mean seriously....I don't like WVU at all, folks who know me on here know that, but De'Shawn Butler ain't WVU. He's a good kid who plays for a crappy school. Give him some credit. Sheesh, the WVU hating obsession on here sometimes gets a little out of hand. It's almost like you have to say how much you hate WVU to prove how much of a Herd fan you are. I'll tell ya what, if you have to say how much you hate WVU to show your Herd spirit, you need to reevaluate where you are as a fan.

BTW, this is the post i was replying to:

  • I know it's a free country and people can post whatever they want but why do we even post about  them on our board? The least people could do is put NHR in the headline...

  • When it comes to morality...many fans of opposing teams will unite for one common thing/purpose for the betterment of our Americans. In this case, us Marshall fans can take a moment to show our respects to someone like Butler for his actions. A woman in the hospital's day was made by having a wvu basketball player visit her...then so be it. wvu fans even showed their respects to Virginia Tech the year the massacre occurred by having black ribbons and saying, "Today we are all Hokie fans." For that one day they did that. It's a mutual respect everyone will show towards one another...even if they hate their rivals more than anything.

Yes I hate wvu more than anything but for the duration of this action by Butler...I show my appreciation for it. It is respectable. I'm glad he did it.
    Now...moving on...GO DUKE!!!

  • Sometimes you gotta give credit where it is due.  I hate WVU, but for an example Pat White may have been one of the classiest kids the state of WV has had to represent them in a while.  Many WVU fans hate Bill Stewart, but in my book he is a class act.  Regardless of what team you root for if someone does something good for the community give them some credit.  Kudos to you Butler for taking time to help out...............and I hope DUKE makes you look like a high schooler!  :-)

  • Most of you know that I detest USPAM.

But those guys are a gritty, hard-nosed basketball team and Butler
is their go-to guy. I respect his play and, now, his persona.

That is a big reason why their team is where it is today ... there is
no fear in them. If they are missing free throws or FGA's it is due to fatigue or
a lack of concentration and I wish I could say that for a couple of guys
    in our rotation.

A difficult schedule can prepare a team for a run at all the marbles. A
difficult schedule can also demolish a team that has injuries and/or lacks
cohesiveness. We saw both ends of that spectrum with Louisville over
the last 2 decades as one set of examples.

    My 2 cents.

  • Yeah he is a decent guy...I wish we had him...He has played all 5 positions for WVU this season and made 7 game winning shots...without him they finish 5th in the big east and are a one and done NCAA team..

  • Speaking of Buff and Tampa, I wonder how the new coaching staff and at South Florida will do this year...I read that they have gotten rid of the spread and are going to run a 2 back set...Should be interesting....

I have to root for them to win the BE and get poor Mark Snyder a little redemption....

That's a shame for USF.  They had come a long way in a short period of time.  Now they get Skip Holtz and Mark Snyder to bomb the program back to the stone age.  Within 3 years they will be worse than they've ever been.  Those are two of the least forward thinking men in college football.  Even a fossilized Joe Pa knows that 3 yards and a cloud of dust crap is outdated by 10 years at least.

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

  • That brings back memories of a lunch I enjoyed umpteen years ago at George Steinbrenner's BBQ restaurant in Tampa, with Marshall assistant football coach Tim Billings and former Tampa Bay Bucs Lee Roy Selmon. Selmon was a USF consultant at the time (he would later become AD), and was developing USF's football program. Billings and Selmon both played for Oklahoma.

When asked, Selmon wanted no part of scheduling Marshall.
