At first, I thought John Bruhin must have been a poltergeist.

    A really, big, 6-foot-4, 318-pound poltergeist.

But, nope, that No. 64 was no ghost.

And I didn’t need a little, blonde-haired girl with big, baby blues saying, “He’s baaaaack,” to confirm it.

All it took was one look at that elastic back brace Bruhin was wearing during Marshall’s first spring football practice Wednesday at Edwards Stadium.

    That’s when the realization hit.

The guy that most people expected to never play another snap of football was back. The guy that sat out nearly one full year of his Marshall career with a serious back injury was back.

  • This is big if he is really able to play, because he could play center and have Schofield (an excellent run blocker) play guard.

    Instantly the run game improves....

  • This shows the good work the strength & conditioning coach is doing.  He's obviously working with the doctors & physical therapists to get the guy healthy first, then back on the field.  He'd be a lot better if he was closer to 300.

  • Bruhin is a gritty, hard-working kid...we need as many players like him we can get.  His heart is what you'd love to have in every one of your guys as a football coach.

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

  • You have to wish good things to happen for him.  First losing his brother, then the back injury.  He has been through a load of tough times to be so young.

  • I wish all the best for that young man and his big brass balls!!
