The movie got him.

Reeled him in hook, line and verbal commitment.

As soon as Corie Wilson finished watching the Marshall movie, the Florida native wanted to be part of "We Are. ..."

"I saw it for the first time about three months ago," said Wilson, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound cornerback who starred at Edison High School in Miami, Fla. "I liked it. I mean, it motivated you to want to just go there and be a part of it."

So, now he is.

Wilson gave Marshall a verbal commitment last Friday.

And how big a part did the "We Are. ... Marshall" movie play in his decision?

I'm guess I'm glad Wilson didn't read Chuck's bitter, unforgiving, out-of-control critique of the movie after it debuted.

I never exactly understood why Landon was so bitter toward the movie and those that participated.  About a year ago I sent Chuck a well thought out extensive e-mail as to why he took the stance he did toward the movie.  I just wanted his honest opinon as to why he disliked it so much.  Well my efforts went unnoticed I guess.  I didn't even so much as got a sniff of a reply.  As I have often said on here the movie was not a masterpiece, but I thought certain scenes were very well done and acted out; plus the movie did get our story out there for the world to see to those that did not have access to the documentary "From Ashes to Glory.

Guys.....I was on message board hiatus when the movie came out....but let's be honest about the movie. It couldve been done A LOT better. Of course the small things that are messed up about it hard core herd fans are going see where most everyone else won't. I think Hollywood has deadlines on projects just like the rest of the world and kind of rushed making it a bit and it couldve and shouldve (to us) been done better. I don't even recall Landons article, I just recall my feelings after seeing it...having said all that, it is still a great recruiting tool and most people who watch it will come away saying that was ok but not the greatest movie ever....I don't see a need to bash Landon 4 years later for an article that most likely stated the obvious...

I was fine with the movie. I cried all the way through it. I went through 30-40 kleenex.
So I have no complaints. It was a great thing for our much-loved university.
It made me proud to be a Marshall grad.

And remember this adage:  There is no such thing as bad publicity.

It's true. Spielberg could've directed with Tom Hanks, Edward Norton, even Clint Eastwood all playing roles...as well as a majority of Hollywood's distinguished actors and actressess and STILL there would've been something wrong with the movie in the eyes of the Huntington folk.

I think the most important part of all this...is if we, as fans and supporters of the team, can live up to our hype and dedication as portrayed in the film, so this new player feels he wasn't misled.

It was a darn fine movie. It's not "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle" but darn fine just the same.

I really wish we had free showings at a local theatre or somewhere for visiting fans on gamedays...

I wasn't bashing Landon.  I just wanted his opinon on why he took such a negative attitude toward the film.  In other words I would have liked to have  seen him defend his opinon.

When Neil Patrick Harris is hanging out of the sun roof with the strippers I realized what a cinematic masterpiece I was watching.  I watch it once a month to find things I missed before!

Thanks, Marcbuff. It was a moving experience for me and brought back many fond memories of my years in Hgtn.

I saw it when it premiered in Reno, Nevada. A couple years later I was back in Reno strolling thru the Sparks Labor Day Rib Fest. Of course, I was wearing Herd gear. I suddenly heard a loud voice from one of the out of state vendors yelling behind me:   "We Are"........  I loved it!!!! As someone said above, the movie is going to help sell Marshall for years to come. So, as we should do with all things in life, let's focus on the positive aspects of the film.

I really liked the movie.  While there are definitely some Hollywood moments it really put our story out there.   I have been many places and received positive comments about it.  Outside of some o the hardcore Herd fans nobody knows some of the changes.   I travel for work so I have had the chance to discuss it many times.  

Most recently in Braintree MA I encountered someone that saw the movie and liked it but what I found out about her was even better. Her favorite all-time Patriots player is Troy Brown.  This girl is 25 so she basically grew up loving Troy.  She also spoke about the movie.   It was a neat story with her.
