In another development from the meeting, the Big East's hopes for keeping its automatic qualifying status took another hit in the meetings when the Orange Bowl declared it only wanted to continue to be tied in with the Atlantic Coast Conference and not both leagues. The Big 12 will continue its ties with the Fiesta Bowl and the Big 10 and Pacific-10 with the Rose Bowl.

But the Big East champion will not have an anchor bowl. The conference's automatic bid will be subject to review if it does not meet unspecified performance standards over a four-year period that started last season.

The BCS commissioners will meet again in St. Louis during the Final Four and April 25-28 in Scottsdale, Ariz., where the selection process is expected to be the major topic of discussion.

Hey marcbuff.  Remind me one more time why the Big Least is so much better than the ACC.

  • Louisville helped but Uconn (4 yrs removed from I-AA), USF (9 yr program 3 yrs removed from I-AA), and Cincy didn't do a bit of good in football. Lets watch the rats start to scramble to find a new home.

  • Louisville helped for the short term....like one year.  Remember, this is the same team that we kicked all over the field in our meetings with them.  They aren't that good.  They may win 8 this year, but then they will go back to the same ole Louisville.  They aren't that good of a program!!!
I am a Marshall fan living in the shadow of WVU.  Someone PLEASE help me!!

  • Actually I hate to admit it but I think that the Cards could be the next VT. They have the #6 and #12 rushers in the country last year. They just recruited last years SI QB Brian Bohem and they have a decent line. Consider the fact that basiclly the only team they have to beat for the BE is WVU is a huge advanage. I think that the BE will turn their next project in Louisville like they did VA Tech and WVU gets left out again.

Has anyone been on WVUs board, theres not a peep about the Orange bowl dropping their Tie.

Right Mako, like Im going to fall for a BOGUS article. Here is one though that sums up the kind of trash at Always Classless  Conference scools is famous for. Give me a minute I will find the one in todays Tampa paper about the F$U lineman busted for selling drugs and the PhD at VPI who got busted for running a drug ring at VPI.

I saw that article this AM on Killerfrogs.com and was going to post it here.

The loss of the auto-Orange Bowl Bid is just the first domino to fall.

Mark my words; CUSA will be rising just as fast as the Big East is sinking. I look for us to achieve parity in about 3 years.

Louisville was stupid for bailing. For them this move will turn out to be a complete wash.

  • Im not sure what the excitement is all about, other than it being an anti-wvu post.......It is our ultimate goal to join the Big East and to have a part of the BCS$$$ that comes with it......not to mention that we would generate more revenue in the big east, but our traveling expenses would be so much better than CUSA.....a trip to Louisville, Cincy, Pitt, and Morgantown would do our program better than trips to ECarolina, UTEP, etc...........We must first show that we can compete with CUSA and upgrade our facilities to where they are on par with CUSA first.  Not to scite sources and not to ruffle feathers with our new conference , but i think that we have a Master Plan in place that includes the Big East.We have a consultant who consulted Va. Tech during their growth perioud do an outside evaluation for us recently.....David Hardesty will be pressured by Gov. Manchin to see that if any invite comes our way to the big east, that he won't be an obstructionist this time............put all of your hate for WVU and the BCS aside, a BCS Big East would be in Marshalls best interest.  Louisville is here to stay in football, as long as Petrino is guiding the ship........with new revenues and a new coach, Cincinnati will be a different team as well......yes we beat the teams in the past, but we didn't get it done this year against Cincinnati, and Louisville would've handed us our lunch.  South Florida will have more of an impact on recruits..........matter of fact, we already lost one to them this year, when has that ever happened.  Yes, Rutgers will still be Rutgers, but what conference doesn't have a kicking boy?

  • I agree with most comments, but whoever mentioned Uconn better not sell them short. It is obvious that they have made a commitment to D1 football. They have everything necessary to be a top team quickly. Money, fanbase and geography. One of the fastest growing programs around.

  • Marcbuff, sometimes your blind hatreds and loyalties just make you look dumb.  Here's a link if you want to read the whole article yourself:

Is it?  I'm not so sure.  Since the Big Least has lost VT, Miami and BC, they are seriously on the bubble of losing their auto BCS bid.  Their conference champion got humiliated by Utah.  The wave of the future is a 12 team all-sports conference and the Big Least continues to be saddled with a bunch of members who play in basketball only.  As much as it pains me to say it, college basketball has taken a nose dive in the last 15 years and football is now the locomotive that's driving the college train.

CUSA is now a complete conference with all members competing in all sports. Conference wide, I'd say we've got 5 years of work to do but I think that you're eventually going to see college football divide into basically three tiers.  Tier 1 is the SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big 12 and PAC 10.  Tier 2 is CUSA, the Big Least and the MWC.  Tier 3 is the WAC, MAC and Sun Belt.  I'm beginning to think that staying in CUSA and raising the bar just like we did in the MAC will be better for us in the long run that jumping an unstable conglomerate conference like CUSA was before the changes.
