Are you ready for some Final Four basketball?

Well, in my never-ending quest to provide Herald-Dispatch subscribers with quality information here is a “Reader’s Guide to the Final Four,” courtesy of Marshall basketball coach Tom Herrion.

First game, Butler vs. VCU at 6:09 p.m., Saturday.

“Both teams have experience, that’s what jumps out,” said Herrion. “I think four of VCU’s top five are seniors. Clearly, they’ve got a lot of talent. Jamie Skeen (6-foot-9 forward) is the variable, I think. When he plays at a high level like he did against Kansas — he was the best guy on the floor that particular game —  they’re tough.

“For Butler, Matt Howard (6-8 senior forward) causes a lot of problems. A lot of offense runs through him because he plays in and out. He stretches you out. He makes threes now. He also plays center when they go small. Obviously, he’s the heart and soul of their team.

“Then, Shelvin Mack has emerged into as good a guard as there is in the country.”
