EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the eighth installment of a 12-part series previewing Marshall's opponents for the upcoming football season.

HUNTINGTON -- With a crack of Case Keenum's right knee, the 2010 football season not only turned sour for the University of Houston, but for all of Conference USA.

You see, the Cougars were all set to be media darlings. The non-BCS team that ran the table and crashed the BCS party. It was going to be TCU or Boise State-esque. For the first time since the league realigned in 2005, C-USA was going to be in the Cinderella story spotlight. Not the Mountain West Conference. Not the Western Athletic Conference.

But when Keenum attempted to tackle UCLA's Akeem Ayers last September after the linebacker picked the quarterback off, those dreams were quickly dashed.

Keenum tore his ACL on the play and was done for the season. Houston quickly went from a Top 25 team to an average, middle-of-the-road bunch that finished 5-7.

In 2011, the feel out of Houston is that Coach Kevin Sumlin and company are ready for a mulligan. Ready to show that last season didn't exist. Keenum was granted a sixth year of eligibility in January, meaning the hopes are high for this September.
