EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the 21st in a series of previews on West Virginia and Marshall football opponents.

Date with Marshall: Thursday, Nov. 17, 8 p.m. EST

Site: Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium (61,000, FieldTurf), Memphis, Tenn.

Coach: Larry Porter (2nd year, 1-11)

    Checking them out

Bad news: The Thundering Herd will be playing this roadie five days after running around at high-powered Tulsa. Good news: The Tigers could enter this game 1-9.

This historically struggling program has plunked to rock bottom, going 3-21 in the last two years. Only nine starters return, though that could be considered good news.

Time will tell, but the Tigers do have some recognizable names. Offensively, receivers Curtis Johnson and 6-foot-4 Marcus Rucker are back, the latter the last of a line of tall (and often underutilized) receivers. Billy Foster has been shifted from receiver to a young backfield.
