  • I am planning to buy some new clubs, I have been looking at some Nike drivers. Has anyone played them, and if so, do you like them. Ebay has a 350cc driver for $70. These clubs are not listed other places. Are they older? CAN ANYONE HELP?

  • I suggest you go to a sports shop and TRY the driver you plan on getting.  Golf clubs are very personal and a lot of times the club I intend to buy and the one I bring home are completely different.

I just bought a driver recently.  I fully intended to buy a Cleveland Launcher 400.  I came home with a Walter Hagen 430.  Money wasn't really an issue and I tried all the name brands(Titleist was nice) but came away with a more obscure off-brand club.

Some clubs just don't set well when you address the ball, regardless of price or popularity.

I can hit a Nike but I don't play them because of how they set.  I play Titleist irons, Taylormade fairway woods, Walter Hagen driver, Cleveland wedges and a Carbolite putter.

  • I only need two golf clubs, a putter and anything else.

Any club I hit other than the putter the ball goes about 110 yards and lands in about the same spot. Sometimes it rolls, sometimes it bounces, and sometimes it flies. When using the woods, particularly the driver, the path is quite interesting. The ball may go as far hooking or slicing as it does go forward, still landing in the same place as say the five iron. Whether the ball hooks or slices is purely up to chance, it is not predictable.

I have discovered that the clubs have an additional use. In case of severe ankle or knee sprains either the putter or pitching wedge make an excellent cane when held upside down.

  • Athens,
My best advise be to look at getting fitted for clubs, you can get a off brand driver (not knock off) fiitted to your specific height and swing speed for less than the cost of a new brand name driver.  The whole process is pretty fun and takes about 30-45 minutes.  Having been an avid golfer since I was fifteen I have played with people from all walks of life and have seen a host of swings.  I have played with a lot of guys who think because they have $2,000 worth of equipment in their bag it makes them a better player..... guess what, it doesn't.  Sorry if this sounds like a rant I just think the club makers mistakenly advertise how good thier clubs will really work for the average golfer-who by definition can barely break 100.

  • There also are many golf equipment stores that have indoor driving ranges. I know of such a store here in Ashland, KY that allows customers to tryout some clubs before making a decision.

And Photo, I am right with you my friend. Some may find this strange, but I do not even carry a driver or any woods in my bag. I figured if I couldn't hit it, why carry it?

  • I am a firm believer in being fitted for your clubs.  Paul, at GGCC fitted me for mine many years ago, and I have not looked back since. Ha! Ha!. Ping irons, I have used for 20 years or so, but the Putter and Woods have to be very personal. Best of Luck!
