HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Winning decisions from former Thundering Herd pitchers Mike Mason and Joe Church highlight the second summer update for Marshall baseball’s players in the pros.

Mason took his victory in his professional debut, a relief appearance where he allowed only two base-runners in two scoreless innings of work.  Church waited until his fourth outing but took a winning decision in a road victory over Salem-Keizer.  Both pitchers currently stand at 1-0 in their first season of Minor League Baseball.

At the Triple-A level, Dan Straily turned in two quality starts last week with only one win (and one loss) to show for it.  The right-hander struck out 18 over those two starts and developed a commanding lead in the strikeouts category (134).  Only Stephen Strasburg (122) of the Washington Nationals and Justin Verlander (121) of the Detroit Tigers have eclipsed the 120 mark.
