  • If I'm not mistaken, he was our first and very early commit last year.  Should be a good player for us.

This.  He committed to us for 2012 in January 2011.

Johnson was actually rated one of the top 20 players in VA before his junior season.  He had a lot of BCS interest which would've translated into offers if he wasn't rock solid in his commitment to Doc.  The bigger schools cooled on him once they figured out he wasn't going anywhere.  He should've been a high 3* and could've possibly been a fringe 4* if he would've played the recruiting games.

I think he will be a huge player for us by the time he's done in Huntington.  He's got star written all over him.

Interesting.  Where is he listed as FB?  Herdzone still says LB.

Regardless, watch his Youtube videos of when he played RB in high school.  He was a monster.  It wouldn't be a bad move to put him in the backfield to open holes and/or get a few carries, but personally I like him at LB.  His size and speed wouldn't hurt our defense at all.

  • Foldout that the HD has been doing for 15-20 yrs on gameday....has a schematic of both teams O and D with the players # beside his name and also a complete roster of each team. I re-checked to be sure and it says FB but could be a mistake.

  • Met he and his parents at the Green & White game.  VERY excited about being here!  Haven't seen him again since, but his offer/interest/visit list was very impressive.

  • This kid was a stud in H.S.  He was the dominant player in the area, much like Bradshaw was for Graham.  I look for him to be a solid player in the next couple of years.

  • We need him on defense more than we need him on offense.

  • UVA and VT were both very interested in Devon but he remained firm in his Herd commit.  That tells me a lot right there about his character.

  • I am not sure, but I think he is one of the LB that they have tried as a FB for short yardage situations.  They had a couple LBs practice at FB in order to have depth behind Wellman if needed.  From what I gather he is still mostly a LB, but could might actually show up higher on the depth chart at FB.
