Youngstown State was looking for a paycheck, probably not realistically expecting a win. But the Penguins waddled out of the Steel City not only $400,000 richer, but also with an upset win over Pitt.

Marshall coach Doc Holliday doesn’t want a similar thing happening Saturday night in Huntington, when the Thundering Herd host Western Carolina at 7 p.m.

The Catamounts (1-0) are a Football Championship Subdivision team, although their history isn’t lined with recent success like Youngstown. Western Carolina was 1-10 last season and has not played in the FCS playoffs since 1983.

Still, Holliday has cautioned his team about taking the Catamounts lightly. This has all the makings of the dreaded “trap game,” falling between the game against West Virginia and next week’s battle with rival Ohio.

  • If we couldn't sleepwalk and win this game, then we have serious problems. They are basically a D-2 team.

While i am not meaning to put them down, i expect us to win this game by 40+, or again, we are goin to have major issues the rest of the year.

  • They are PRETENDING to take this game seriously.  You can't possibly expect a D1 team, with a good shot at winning it's conference, and full of underclassmen, to take WCU seriously.  It's just not reality.  Doc's words are a warning and mainly for show.  He knows damned well this team is not goign to take WCU seriously...not that it matters.  WCU is really that bad.

That said, I expect a total domination, but not a monstrous blowout.  We will do whatever we want, whenever we want.  But ultimately, I think the staff will use this game to evaluate talent, personnel packages and, ultimately, to prepare for OU without giving them much good video.  When you play a game that way, you won't score 80 and probably won't shut out even WCU.  That said, if they wanted to win this one 80-0, they could do so, easily.  I just don't think that's the intention.  Look for Froh to get VERY significant playing time, along with Dillon and look for at least 10 carries from each of the RB's.  Also, look for some tight man coverage, to see how the DB's do with that.

Maybe 49-10 Herd???  Something like that.
