    In 1971 the American band Earth, Wind and Fire was formed. The 2008 New York Giants running back tandem of Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward and former Marshall University running back Ahmad Bradshaw, were nicknamed after the famous musical group. Jacobs the earth, Ward the wind, and Bradshaw was the fire.

    Is it to early to label the freshman trio of running backs for the Thundering Herd as Earth, Wind and Fire?
    In Saturday’s win against Southern Miss the freshman trio of Kevin Grooms, Steward Butler and Remi Watson combined for 246 yards against the Golden Eagles. Butler led the charge with 12 carries for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Butler finished with 75 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and Watson added 57 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.

    Watson, “earth,” is the biggest of the three, at a solid 202 pounds, and is head coach Doc Holliday’s go-to-back when the Herd is on the goal line. Watson punched the ball in from three yards out to give Marshall a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

    Don't want to use this one.....Reynolds was not there when they cut the studio version that you hear on the radio.  he was part of the group but was not in the studio that day.   But it made the album and you assume he sings in it.  We don't need any player "missing in action"   lol

    • "Earth, Wind and Fire" is just gay.  I say we just let the individual rushing records, conference championships and MORE (yes, I mean that) that are coming soon speak for themselves.

    You get a plus one for recollecting H, JF & R....but maybe it would be a good nickname for our group since if they get half a chance, they're gone.... ;D

    Too much attachment to a musical group. Greg H wasn't even quoting or talking to anybody directly. He just didn't like the name (mainly for the running backs)

    No need to get upset. Everybody likes different things.

    • I saw Earth Wind and Fire at the Keith Albee in I think 1975, best concert I have seen.  Senior year of high school , awesome show and awesome music!
