  • I predicted a Herd win 59-28. My normal ultra-optimism took the largest hit in the history of football in the Joan. I am very red-faced. I honestly thought we would win out.
I have planned all my weekends around the Herd games.
Now I guess I don't care about the last four games.

I really don't feel we can beat Memphis because we have no one to mentally (not to mention physically) get these fine men ready for a game this Saturday. And we have no one capable of directing the in-game adjustments needed to win these games.
This is my lowest point since the Snyder years. For the first time under Doc, I have completely lost hope. Sadly, I am too old to be around for the NEXT five-year coach to bring us back to glory.

We need a bunch of new coaches and we really need a motivator who can get the players to OVER-achieve like we were known to do in the 90s.

But still, I want to sincerely thank every player on this team for coming here to play their college ball for my beloved Herd. I love them all. But I am crushed after Saturday's debacle which I have to put on the coaches, NOT ON THE PLAYERS.

Again, my heartfelt thanks to every player wearing the Green and White.
    Go HERD!!!

  • I am very down, too  :(....but if  we can beat Memphis & UAB as we should, and squeak out a win over Houston and/or ECU, we'll go bowling again & feel better about ourselves. Granted, that is nowhere near expectations heading into this season, but the good news is we have an established high-octane offense with young talent. As for the defense, fire Rippon & bring someone in to establish discilpline & fundamentals. Winning is everything; nothing else matters....Go Herd!

  • jt, I feel your pain. I believe you and I are in the same age group. I don't want to be too negative, but who knows how many years we have left? I've held season tickets for almost a half century (1963) and before THE HERD moved to CUSA, my brother and another friend traveled to every game. We saw EVERY game played by Pennington and Leftwich at Marshall. I cried for a solid week after the plane crash. We often said to one another during the 90s, "Enjoy it boys, it may not happen again." That may be more true than I'd like it to be. I am sincerely weighing my options for the future.

  • Why u should never make actual bets that involve your favorite team,,if it's any consolation it would have been a closer game in better weather

  • I am not a pessimistic person at all. But I am a realist.
So, there is always a bright light somewhere. Today that is the basketball program. Coach Herrion has done an outstanding job and we have that to get us through the winter.
    Go Herd.

And jstHerd, I was at Marshall during the years of Walowac, Byrd, Greer and Slack. Wow, those were exciting times for Herd BB. Slack was an incredible talent. His Marine years helped him, I think, when he crashed those boards. I can still see him tipping the rebounds out to Cebe Price for the "true fast breaks".  Wow and wow!!
So that might give me a couple years on you. I graduated in 56.

At the time, Jerry West was the big name in the state but I thought Byrd was a better ballplayer. OTOH, he was a childhood friend and that could have colored my thinking a wee bit.
    Go HERD!!!

In a nutshell, that's my thoughts too.

  • jt, I graduated in 59 with a Bachelors and 60 with a Masters. Maybe sometime we'll meet and "go over" our times at MU.
