  • Not sure how many of you guys on here are Disc Golfers, but wanted to toss out a category to talk about here.

Huntington actually has one of the nicest DG courses around and many people frequent it in Rotary Park. Most DG courses are a big field with baskets set up all around, and they don't have true holes. Fairmont has a decent course, and I played one in Greenville, SC that was really nice as well.

But Rotary has a heavily used 18 hole course with a mix of fairway and wooded holes, with flat and hills mixed in. Really nice and one of the best around. They upkeep it well too. Plus, they built a second 18 hole course on one end of the park (harder and less used), but there are 36 actual DG holes to play right here in H-town.

Before they built the second course and the new parking lot above the softball fields in the main entrance, most of us parked to play in the lot off of Rotary Rd. Now most people park in the new lot as they switched the holes around a bit.

But you still play directly through that other parking area. Which I happened to not park at today,  but usually do. That lot is usually full of cars too. Well today, playing through there, there were a couple of cars sitting there with people in them and the car on. Walked right by them on the way to the next tee, and some dude was shooting up heroin with a needle right there in broad daylight, in the park, with a girl ditting beside him in the drivers seat.

Very sad day for me, as thay park has always been a very safe place, and very frequented. So be careful next time any of you or your family head out there.

  • For crying out loud. It's  to the point where ordinary citizens may have to take matters into their own hands. I call 911 every time I think I see crap like that. Just FYI there is a nice course at the Armco Park in Ashland. Pretty safe as it it's directly behind the State Police barracks.

  • I had the pleasure of playing Little League on the hill just before it caved in 1973.  That area around there has always been sketchy to say the least.  Disc Golf seems to be good but I would never go up there alone.  Weird stuff up there from what I've heard

  • Don't know if it was heroin or not, but he had a tourniquet on and a syringe jammed in his arm, in a car.

I didn't have my cell phone with me to call 911 or take a pic of the car.

Been disc golfing there for prob 15 years. Never seen anything like that up there.

  • Hopefully it was an isolated incident. I've never seen anything like that and I, too, have been going there for at least a decade. The players will bring beer and/or weed sometimes, but they're pretty harmless. And they pick up after themselves, which is commendable.

  • I'm on the local parks board and we just finished our first disc course.  pretty cool.  overlaid it on the edges of a soccer park and tied in some trees, creek and some hills.   Not bad for a first effort.  The local disc golfers planned and did some of the work.

We have a lot of issues with parks, especially the passive parks, and perverts.   For some reason the homosexuals like to "meet and greet" in the woods.   It's a problem since many of the moms like to take their kids for walks on nice days.  Last year we had a 1st grade class on a science trip walk up on two guys and their vaseline.  In the ripley's believe it or not catagory I was reprimanded when I used the word pervert in the board meeting the next week.  I did ask the board president what the proper term was for someone naked, covered in vaseline and "reaching around" on another naked guy also covered in vaseline, in broad daylight in the middle of a city park.  He didn't really have a PC term for me to use.

Not much problem with drugs.  I hope it stays that way and not just our ignorance.   I do think that Meth is much, much more destructive to us as a country than all other drugs combined.   It's horrid.

  • Rotary is pretty bad of the evenings if you go up by the fire tower, but i have never seen it down by the parking lots.  That is why I have my buddy Glock with me at all times.

Just got the S&W Bodyguard .380 for pocket carry, and the S&W Shield .40

I did call the HPD tip line this morning to let them know.

  • Play disc golf at Rotary ALL the time... I don't drink but I do smoke up there and it's super relaxing.

Never seen anything sketchy in the dozens of times I've been up there though.

Ashland is nice too, kinda far though.
