I agree 95%. However, I've come to feel that a coach can't exert total control over a player. If there are a couple of headcases on the team there is only so much you can do. I blame Herrion for playing the headcases when they obviously didn't deserve to play.

No matter how unhappy I am with the state of affairs at Marshall, there is no way I’m pi$$ed over winning.

That said I’m dreading future seasons with Herrion as head coach. Last night demonstrates what everyone knew, this year’s team should have been much better than it was, and responsibility for that rests solely on Herrion’s shoulders. I don’t care how they do in the conference tournament. If they should manage to win C-USA and go to March Madness, I don’t care how they do in the NCCA tournament; there is no way to justify giving Herrion another extension based on this year’s performance.

Actually last night took some pressure off my issues with Herrion and placed it back more directly on the players, with the exception of his starting a really aggressive 5 and playing the zone.

Also, as much as I hate to say it, I would bet money that USM beats us 4 out of 6 games in a row right now.  There was a lot of great play and a bit of luck in the game last night. So, my feeling is Just Take It and move on. 

Last night's game doesn't pump any emotions into what I expect at ECU on Saturday at all.  Three of those in a row might.

Clovenhoof i agree that a coach may not have total control. But he does need to put his foot down. But i think we just have a tough with a chemistry makeup that is horrible. We don't have any leaders at all on this team. Kane says it's "his" team but he has no idea how you lead. I think he really tries. But you don't stare down your players like you could punch them in the face if they mishandle your pass. You pat them on the butt and say shake it off. You don't go to the foul line when a teammate is shooting and give them advice when you are one of the worst freethrow shooters on the team. You don't gamble time and time again on defense to let your man go by you and score. And then look at your teammate that is caught in no man's land and stare him down and act like "why did you let him score. You don't miss 2 easy layups and turn the ball over twice in 4 trips down the floor and then stair down Spikes because he couldn't get a handle on your pass. The biggest thing about these guys are they can't self motivate. They need a crowd or a coach or team that has beat the crap out of them before to motivate them. Good teams focus and play hard and don't get rattled, especially on the road. S Miss never lost their cool last night and kept coming. We on the other hand down their got down and total lost focua and collapsed as we have done many times this year. Yes he should be benching some guys if they don't play hard 100% of the time. But i really think there is a few on this team that will never have that kind of pride. JMO!!!!

Agreed. Some have leadership qualities, unfortunately no one on this team.

maybe it's more of the coach.  I mean the guy has been stubborn as hell to play much zone...it was a key to the win.  something to think about.

you have a problem with Kane and completely aren't objective.  it's clear.  he certainly isn't perfect and I have some problems with his game.  to single out his D (which again isn't perfect) but pretty good and especially on this team of weak defenders proves your bias.  our help D (which is a big part of man to man if you understand the game) has been horrible at times and our play of the bigs pretty piss poor too but your focused on the one player.  the one player we would not even have had the success we've had if he wasn't there.

I get it, you don't like his Ts from his freshman year or his body language, facial expressions or dress...but you need to watch the game.

There is no such thing as a "could have been if only", there is only what is. Every decision a player or coach or team makes along the way removes all doubt about what could be and makes clear what is. However, you do have the power to make things better.
