PINEHURST, N.C.-Marshall's Nathan Kerns fired a 3-under par 68 to take a one-shot lead at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon.

Kerns birdied the par-3 third hole and followed with birdies on the par-4 12th, par-5 15th and the par-4 17th. His only bogey came on the par-3 16th. UNC Greensboro's Tyler Coalson and VCU's Jake McNulty both sit one shot adrift after their rounds of 69.

Jeremy Rogers shot an 80 (T-76th) for the Herd, while Brian Anania posted an 83 (T-82nd). Josh Holmes (84, T-85th) and Logan Lagodich also notched an 86 (T-90th) to round out the squad.

Rogers and Anania birdied the par-5 second hole, while Lagodich also birdied the 15th.

As a team, the Herd sits in 16th place after its first-round score of 315.

Marshall tees off at 9:30 a.m. Monday to begin second-round play. The final round will take place Tuesday.
