    And then there was one.

Going until Marshall head coach Doc Holliday's fourth season, that's how many original members of his first football coaching staff remain.

    Only one.

Offensive coordinator Bill Legg, who was the offensive line coach during that first season in 2010, is the lone holdover now that running backs coach JaJuan Seider has left for WVU.

In case Marshall fans have forgotten, that initial coaching staff included Tony Petersen, quarterbacks; Phil Ratliff, tight ends; Zach Smith, wide receivers; Sean Cronin, defensive line; Chris Rippon, defensive coordinator and linebackers; Mike Cassity, secondary; Fred Tate, safeties; Frank Piraino, strength and conditioning; Legg; and Seider.

  • Just remember that we are losing coaches off of a 5-7 year.  I must say that the loss of Tony Peterson does bother me more than the others.  It is really hard for me to get to bent out of shape on the other losses.  Coaching turn over is going to happen and I am glad that we kept Bill Legg, the only position that has not been filled with a better coach IMO is Tony P.  Would really like to get someone to fill that void.

  • All Doc needed last year was someone that could line them up for simple kickoffs and maintain their lanes.  If he had that, we would have gone bowling.  Hopefully one of these guys can do that job.

I agree that we are going to miss Peterson.  Hopefully he will be back at Marshall at some point in his career.

  • If we give up 28 or more a game I will think it wasnt all on Rip. Very many less than that the opp conclusion is acceptable. Either one will let us win a lot of games.

the co=ord may be the difference between giving up say 21 pts a game and going to 28 pt per game.  giving up we gave up last year, you cant hang that all on the co-ord!!!  that being said, it was time for a change.  I will be happy if I see 11 guys run to the ball on every play.  That alone will cut down 14-21 pts right there!!

  • Obviously it's tough to see these guys go but I'm actually pretty happy with who Doc has hired to replace them.

I like the new WR coach and let's be honest anyone was an upgrade over Rippon.

I'm not forgetting that.  I do believe though that if we would have had better field position, we would have gone bowling.
