  • Saw it on ESPN that they decided not to pick up his option thus making him a free agent.
    Gatorade sucks.  Water is better.

  • Chill.  It's a cap move.  Look for the Pats to re-sign him shortly.

Brown, who captured the imagination of football fans by contributing as a cornerback throughout the second half of the season, was due a $2.5 million roster bonus as well as a $2.5 million salary in 2005. The two sides apparently could not come to an agreement to reduce that $5 million cap hit, and Brown was let go. He could be re-signed at any time, of course, if an agreement is reached.

Brown worked as a cornerback during training camp, and then was pressed into action at St. Louis Nov.7 because of numerous injuries in the secondary. He played extensively as the team's third or slot cornerback the rest of the way. He finished the regular season with 17 tackles, three interceptions and five passes defensed, even coming up with an interception against former teammate Drew Bledsoe in a nationally-televised Sunday night victory.

As he worked more and more on defense, Brown's role on offense diminished. He wound up with 17 catches and one touchdown in the regular season.

The 5-foot-10, 196-pound former Marshall standout ranks third on the team's all-time receptions list with 475 catches, trailing only Stanley Morgan (534) and Ben Coates (490), and he ranks fourth in career receiving yards.

He also had the two most productive seasons in franchise history in terms of pass catching, with 101 in 2001 and 97 in 2002. His 1,199 receiving yards in 2001 in the second best in franchise history, behind only the 1,491 recorded by Stanley Morgan in 1986. Brown also holds the franchise record for most receptions in game, pulling in 16 against Kansas City in 2002.

I know he's getting old, but I don't think his routes are that bad.

  • A true profesional.. and a son of marshall. If they resign him {witch they will} fine. If not the man can hold his head up high and be proud of what he has done.
A man like Troy has a great future outside of Football. I sat behind him and his son's last year at the green and white game. And wanted to ask
him for an autograph so bad.I just felt like the guy gets ask all the time leave him alone and let him enjoy the game. Not the next time I will have pen in hand.
Also while I'm running on. Mike Bartum has done a great Job on and off the field. I guess the list can go on and on and on.......................
anyways thank's guy's you all make being a marshall fan special..
