Since joining Conference USA, Marshall has finished below the .500 mark in the final six games of the season on just two occasions -- those being 2005 and 2008.

So what does that have to do with the second game of the season?

Everything.

Considering that Marshall has only made two bowl appearances as a member of Conference USA -- 2009 and 2011 -- that means the Herd has struggled at the beginning of the year.
