Receiver Shawney Kersey, who transferred to Marshall from Penn State after last season, has left the Thundering Herd program.

Kersey, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior, played two games for the Nittany Lions last season before leaving coach Bill O’Brien’s team. He had six catches for 44 yards in those two games.

Kersey had a productive spring for the Herd and was expected to be in the mix for a prominent role this season. But he did not play in Marshall’s 52-14 season-opening win over Miami (Ohio) last Saturday.

No reason was given for Kersey’s departure.

  • Assuming he left over playing time.. when a PSU guy leaves for lack of playing time, you're pretty well off at WR.

  • The fact that Furrey came in with a clean slate means all these kids had an equal chance. Sad that he left but I think we'll be fine at WR. Wilkins had a good game last week and the freshmen seem to be coming along nicely. Now if we can get Allen to hold onto the ball, we'll be fine.
