RICK McCANNJOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Marshall's Thundering Herd took nearly half of its shots Saturday from behind the 3-point line and came up empty.East Tennessee State's zone defense gave up the inside where the Marshall men's basketball team hit 21 of 30 field goal attempts (70 percent), but also enticed the Herd to launch 30 of its 63 shots from 3-point distance. Marshall connected on just six of 30 long-distance tries (20 percent).Add in Marshall sinking just 18 of 35 free throws and it spelled defeat.ETSU (3-5) improved its record to 3-0 in Roundball Showcase contests played in its off-campus home at Freedom Hall with an 88-78 victory. Attendance was 3,016.
