HUNTINGTOIN, W.Va. – Conference USA recognized three Marshall softball players and awarded them C-USA All-Conference Awards. Sophomore Shaelynn Braxton (Woodbridge, Va.) and freshmen Jordan Dixon (Edmond, Okla.) and Morgan Zerkle (Milton, W.Va.) were the honorees.

This is the third consecutive season that the Thundering Herd has a player recognized for Second-Team All-Conference USA. For the 2014 campaign, Braxton earned the award.

In league play, the second-year veteran ended regular season with the most overall RBI (53) and tied for No. 2 in overall home runs (15). She climbed in the Marshall record books, ranking third for long balls in a season and fifth for RBI.

Braxton leads the Herd with 20 RBI in conference action and is tied with senior Savanah Webster (Las Vegas, Nev) for a team-high six doubles. The sophomore is hitting .337 overall and .309 against conference opponents. She has 116 total bases with the next closest trailing by 34. She leads the team in overall doubles (14) and has a .712 slugging percentage.

Marshall was one of five teams to have two freshmen on the Conference USA All-Freshman Team (FIU, FAU, Tulsa, UAB). This is the second consecutive season that the Herd has members of the team recognized on the freshman team.

Dixon has had a stellar rookie season, making moves in the Marshall record books with her performances.

She ended regular season with 232 strikeouts, ranking fourth in the Herd’s single-season record books. With 18 wins on the season, she now moves into 8th place for victories in a single campaign. In conference, the newcomer leads the field with 228.0 innings pitched and ranks second in strikeouts. With the two wins she earned over LA Tech, she has the fifth-most wins in conference play.

Zerkle’s offense has been one of the biggest threats for Marshall’s opponents. With her speed on the team, the rookie has a conference-leading 46 stolen bases. In conference action alone, she is 19-of-19.
Overall, she holds a .354 batting average with a .369 in conference and has scored a team-leading 40 runs with a team-high 17 against conference opponents.

Nationally in Division I, Zerkle ranks No. 7 in stolen bases. Dixon ranks No. 20 in strikeouts and Braxton is tied for No. 27 in home runs and ranks No. 50 in RBI per game.
