HUNTINGTON -- A fourth former corrections officer was arraigned in Cabell Circuit Court Thursday on charges of being an accessory to or aiding and abetting an attempted murder at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville.

John Bruhin, a former lineman with the Marshall University football team, did not speak at his arraignment, and promptly posted the $10,000 bond imposed by Judge Alfred Ferguson.

Bruhin is the last of four corrections officers to be arraigned on charges of allowing or helping to facilitate an attack on suspected sex offender Zachary Matthew Lawson, 18, by four inmates in the jail in October.

All four officers were fired as a result of an investigation into the incident.

The four inmates are each facing a charge of attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy.

  • WTF???
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "
