    HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Marshall baseball will head to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for its final series of the season as the Herd prepares to take on new Conference USA member Middle Tennessee in a three-game matchup slated to begin Thursday, May 15 at 7 pm ET.

    The second game of the series will be Friday beginning at 7 pm ET, and the Herd’s final game of 2014 is scheduled for Saturday at 1 pm ET.

    Marshall is currently 20-28 on the season.

    The Herd is coming off an 0-3 weekend against Old Dominion.

    Sophomore Caleb Ross (Barboursville, W.Va.) worked four perfect innings of relief on Sunday, his longest outing of his collegiate career. The southpaw picked up four strikeouts during his performance.

    Senior John Beary (Apopka,Fla.) knocked back-to-back doubles to end his home Marshall career, going 2-for-3 with a run in the Herd’s final home game.

    Freshman Corey Bird (Elkview, W.Va.) enters the weekend leading the team with a .299 batting average. Bird is coming off a 16 game on-base streak and leads the team with 13 stolen bases and 47 hits on the season.

    Redshirt sophomore Robert Fajardo (Miami) enters the weekend on a 12 game on-base streak and is second on the team with a .277 batting average.

    SCOUTING THE BLUE RAIDERS

    Middle Tennessee is coming off a series win against FIU and midweek 13-3 victory over Belmont, bringing a 27-25 record into the week.

    Senior outfielder Trent Miller leads the Blue Raiders with a .340 batting average, 42 RBI, and 22 doubles. Miller is fifth in the conference in batting average, third in slugging percentage (.529), second in hits (70), tied for second in RBI, and leads C-USA in doubles and total bases (109).


     

    Junior outfielder Jared Allen has a team-leading 10 homers to accompany 32 RBI and a .279 batting average. Allen leads C-USA in homeruns.
    As a team, Middle Tennessee posts a .267 average and an ERA of 4.37.

    Lefty Zac Curtis will start Thursday’s contest for the Blue Raiders. Curtis boasts a 1.81 ERA and leads C-USA with 118 strikeouts (36 looking). Curtis comes into the week with a 7-3 record.
