HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-- Marshall baseball's Corey Bird (Elkview, W.Va.) was selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team, C-USA officials announced Tuesday.

The Herd has had at least one member earn conference accolades since 2007; Bird becomes the sixth Marshall frosh to earn All-Freshman team honors since Marshall joined the conference in 2006.

The center fielder led the team this season in batting average (.292), stolen bases (15), and hits (49), and was tied for first on the team with 20 walks. Bird was second on the squad in on-base and slugging percentage, posting .370 and .321 marks, respectively. The leadoff hitter was third on the team this year with 19 runs.

He was second in C-USA in stolen bases this season, and first among freshmen,  falling just one bag shy of leader, FIU's Tyler Hibbert, who swiped 16 on the season.

Bird led the team in batting average in 39 of the Herd's 51 games this season, leading the team with 15 multi-hit games. He also posted a team-high 16 game on-base streak that ended on the final week of the 2014 season.

In his college debut, he went 6-for-7 with three stolen bases, a double and scored three runs.
