  • Was watching the Super Regionals in softball this weekend and have a new
favorite for the tournament.  Louisiana Lafayette.  The Ragin' Cajuns!

Boy, can they hit the ball.  A power team. And with a "Rickey Vaughn" pitcher
on the mound......Black Glasses and all!  Wild Thang!  (And not bad lookin' either)

    Now the differences.

We have a relatively new softball stadium with around 200 seats, give or take.
They have a stadium with 2790 seats  that's mostly sold out.

We have a 3' ugly wooden fence in the outfield.
They also have a wooden fence. (First one I've seen other than ours.)  Theirs is 6'
high and PAINTED a bright red, which looks pretty good, I have to admit.
Wonder how our ugly fence (if not being replaced) would look in bright Kelly Green?

Their fans are off the chain.  Talk about loud and supportive.  Wow!
I was impressed.  I'd almost like to go down there next year to take in a game.

I know on special occasions, Herd fans can get up and testify, like they did at UK
last year during the regionals.  But, to host a regional tournament, 200 seats don't
get it.  Also, no lights is also a "Regional" breaker.

Question:  Did someone mention that lights and other upgrades were in store for
for the "Dot"?  Haven't heard any more comments since the Herd TV
                    game at home this year.

In the mean time,  Geaux Cajuns!

Whip up on those big schools at the Women's College World Series.

  • when they were good ol SW Louisiana the M Dantoni BB team drew them first round NCAA tourney. They won. About a month later they were punished by the NCAA for bad infractions including changing HS grades. But I'm over it like a moon at the beach. Not really!

  • And the name of the guard that broke our back was Dwight Lamar.

I remember the first play of the game he dribbled down court and hoisted
up a shot, which seemed like it was just past mid-court.......swish.

  • The Dwight Lamar game is the game where we scored over 100 points and lost.

and he originally committed to play for Ellis Johnson at MU as did Ron Ebron on that same SWLA team.  and before anyone contradicts that, he told me that himself a few years ago when I spoke with him at a Sun Belt tournament game.  imagine what that team could have been!!  all it really lacked anyway was a true center, Enron would have certainly provided that.

Although it was right at a 40-foot shot to open the game it did not swish but rattled hard several times against both sided of the rim before dropping through. With the reinforced rims of today that ball would not have gone in. I remember that shot like it was yesterday.

If we would have just made our shots we would still have won 2-3 guys for us were 2 or 3 FGM for mid-teens FGA.

Lamar got his points but it was Ebron that really killed us on the boards - One Mu player was quoted as saying 'we were getting (defensive) rebounds but they weren't "clean" ' - as he put it, the Herd could not get out and run after them.

  • I missed that game because I was at Basic Training at good ole Fort Dix,  New Jersey.  When I got home one of my buddies said that Lamar was good but the guy that really hurt us was Ron Ebron who owned the base line.

  • Pretty sure Lamar's teammate was Roy (not Ron) Ebron.  He was a force, and Bo Lamar was a scoring machine.
