HUNTINGTON, West Virginia — Wide receiver Darius Watts is among seven people selected for induction into the Marshall University Athletics Hall of Fame in September.

Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick announced the Class of 2014 on Monday.

Watts starred at Marshall from 2000-03 and helped the football team win two Mid-American Conference championships. He finished second in school career receptions (272), receiving yards (4,031) and touchdown receptions (47).

Others to be inducted including men's basketball star Tyrone Collins, wrestler David Coyle, softball pitcher Sierra Davenport, baseball pitcher Albie DeYoung, women's soccer standout Lindsay Jayjack and two-sport star Milan Zban.

The annual Hall of Fame dinner is scheduled for Sept. 12 at the Marshall University Memorial Student Center. Tickets are $30.

  • Darius Watts and Josh Davis both were pretty dynamic players for us.  I thought they both would get a shot at the league.  I remember them dominating against OSU and UT.

  • correction Watts did get a shot in the league drafted by Denver in the 2nd round.  Thanks to Herdzone for that little memory recall.

  • Spider Watts, I remember watching him the first time he stepped on the field for practice.  You could just tell there was something about him ,from his movement to the way he caught passes.

  • Leftwich was quoted in the HD when Watts.first came to campus.  He sais watts introduced himself and said his nickname was gonna be spiderman and Leftwich asked why and Watts said because im going to catch evrything you throw my way.  Thats where it came from.

yes he ran a legit 4.3 and looked exactly like Randys build but a couple inches shorter.  He was a.solid draft picjlk and made some big plays on special teams as a return specialist in addition to being a solid wide receiver.  I used to watch the broncos play just because watts was so electrifying.

  • As a rookie in 2004, Watts caught 31 passes for 385 yards and one touchdown for an average of 14.8 ypc. He played in all 16 games, starting two. Watts carried the ball five times for 33 yards and recorded one tackle as well. In 2004 he tied for the fifth-most receptions by a rookie in Broncos history.

  • I don't doubt he and leftwich had that conversation but that's not where it came from.  It was from 8th grade.  See below section titled Spider-Man
