  • Not a big believer in the "bulls eye on our back" concept. Every game every team wants to win. The team that combines screwing up the least, and performing the best is likely to win. Look at all the pre-game hype fans and players were talking up prior to the several Ohio games. Lots of motivational poster board stuff there. All the talk of taking care of business and not getting derailed. Then the followup rationalizations over how we were too motivated to the point of screwing up. Really. A team goes into every game with a high level of desire to beat whoever they are playing. Even if there is a thing such as a "bulls eye on our back" thingy, there is enough proof to show those kinds of motivations don't always produce and opponents best efforts or "bringing their "A" game". We have many games to prove that.

You play each game to win. I am convinced most teams show up for whoever they are playing with that intent. Then, if you make mistakes, play poorly, drop some passes, fumble some balls, you may end up losing no matter how big the "bullseye" is in the back of your opponent. Everyone wants to beat whoever is at the top, I don't know that teams want to beat them more than they want to win any other game.

As part of the new postseason college football arrangement recently announced by the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee, the ACC has selected the Discover Orange Bowl as its annual contract bowl partner, to serve as the home of the ACC Champion. If the ACC Champion is identified as one of the top four teams by the Bowl Championship Series selection committee, then the ACC Champion will participate in the national semifinals and a replacement team from the ACC would participate in the Discover Orange Bowl.

  • If Marshall is fortunate enough to make one of these bowl games I am hoping it is the Peach for selfish reasons. Atlanta is a short three hour drive for me! The projections that I have seen that have us in that bowl have is playing Georgia or Auburn. Both of these schools are about an hour away from Atlanta so it'd be a virtual home game for either one of them if that scenario was to play out. However, that seemed to work out quite well for us this past December in the Military Bowl.

  • I saved that photo to my phone and wanted to upload to Facebook but something had changed on facebook and it won't even give me the option to upload downloaded photos from my phone to Facebook.  Just shows "camera roll" as an option to pick from. What happened? ? Not long ago I was able to upload a download photo from the Internet to the Facebook

  • One paragraph on the Wiki site about the playoff covers the selection committee. Very first thing it says is SOS very imp to the pickers. That's why I look to be in Dallas vs Big12 or Big 10 which suits me fine.

  •  the wiki page is a wiki page. The random person who made it or edited it has about as much insight as anyone on this message board. Of course it will be a factor, but unless we face an undefeated houston or cincy, we wont be passed over for that spot. I doubt there are more than 1 undefeated g5 if any, whether its us or not is yet to be seen. If we slip up in any games we are finished. Thats for sure.

  • I don't have a strong opinion on that but I would hate to gamble large on the Herd being picked over a 1 loss UCF whose one loss was at Missouri with wins over Penn St and Houston.

That is true, but I highly doubt they will sniff 9 or 10 wins this year, let alone 11. If they did, yes that would be a long shot for us.

  • Considering that Steele has us at #19 and in the access bowl, then he expects Houston, Boise, UCF, Cincy, etc. to have two or more losses.  I assume that #19 means end of season projection if he is calling bowl games???  We would be the highest ranked Group of 5 team at 19.

  • But I figure he is talking AP poll or maybe Phil Steele poll. But the selection guys start their poll OCT 28 and that's the one that will matter.

  • If we are undefeated we will be ranked higher than 19. I'm guessing around mid teens.

  • Even so, the selection guys, as I understand it, are not tied to any poll, perhaps not even their own. They will choose and seed just like the March Madness committee and a higher ranked team could be a lower seeded one.  For us that means that we could be #15 in most polls with UCF at 17, but they determine that SOS and other factors make UCF more deserving. It's going to be nerve-wracking!

That's preposterous IM4DH…it's like saying if we were higher ranked than Rice we would have to play the CUSA championship at their stadium…. ;D
