  • - Pruett indicated that this wasn't a sudden decision.

    - Pruett indicated that Larry Kueck and he are very close.

    - Kueck indicated that he had been surprised by the day's events and only asked to take the HC job two hours prior to the press conference.

Those three don't add up, do they?

Either it had to be a sudden decision...

OR... Pruett and Kueck are not that close really...

OR... Kueck already knew something was up but didn't want to admit to it.

  • Not necessarily.  I am not comparing my situation to this (well, maybe I am a little), but just because you say you are close to someone doesn't mean you discuss things like this.  I have made some major decisions in my life and didn't discuss it with anyone until time to do it.  Bob was obviously very emotional about this, loved his job and the university, and was not going to leave on impulse.  I think most of the discussion was probably between he and Mrs. Pruett, as it should be.  Coach K probably found out about it the way he did because they are very close and BP didn't want to tell him until it was certain.

  • Sorry, 99, but I'm not buy'n. Something is rotten about this whole process. I just hope and pray that we're not being told that we'll be doing a national search when, in fact, the search is already over. That should bother all of us. This program's fans deserve a legit search for the best coach possible within our financial constraints. Anything less than that would be a sham, mockery, and leave some bad taste with most of us. I'm NOT implyimg it will happen that way, but something isn't adding up with the "sudden: decision, the appointment of a FB coach two hours before the big announcement, and a close friend getting the nod. I hope the 'good 'ol boys network" isn't at work.

I don't mean to sound so negative, but d*mn, we need a true national search. Right now, I'm taking Bob Marcum's and the President's word on that.

  • I agree about the search completely.  My point was just that BP's discussions may have been mostly with Kayo and Mrs. Pruett.  And that although Coach K and BP may be close he may not have felt like it was time to discuss it with him until it was a done deal.  But you are correct and I think if the deal is done already it would be a mistake.  Coach K may be the right man, but it would be more legit if a regular process was followed.

_Sturt_ you're confusing the decision with the announcement. Did you want him to publicly announce at the very moment he first started to think of retiring? Decisions like this are very private and people don't Announce it until they are sure that's what they are going to do. Just because we and everyone else just found out about it doesn't mean the it's a sudden decision. In the Daily Mail Marshall Reynolds said that he thought Pruett was going to retire last year.

  • Perhaps with the Rick Neuheisal decsion finding UW and the NCAA guilty, Bob Pruett decided to save Marshall's face by not dragging them through the same process as our head coach.

  • The pending lawsuit against MU, Dan Angel, & Board of Trustees. etc. I am just saying thay perhaps Pruett did not want that lawsuit to be in the limelight during next football season with the move to C-USA.

  • I have read on ESPN in the past years as well as today the lawsuit is one of the things "frustrating" him.  He was implicated in the lawsuit and is being sued for scapegoating others in the AD.  Perhaps, him stepping down, is allowing the focus of the AD on the move to C-USA and away from negative publicity. This is just a thought and meant in no ill will toward Coach P. I agree that something is not being told and I am just speculating possibilities.  This resignation smells as rotten as a dead carcus in west Texas desert.
