Here’s a question to chew on: Should Pruett be considered for the College Football Hall of Fame? There are 116 coaches now enshrined at South Bend, Ind. Many have hundreds of victories. Pruett is 94-23 in nine seasons as head coach. That 80.3 winning percentage, though, is hard to ignore. And for every Darrell Royal and Pop Warner in the Hall, there’s an Earl Banks.Banks was 95-30-2 (76 percent) at Morgan State. Before that, Banks was an assistant at Maryland State-Eastern Shore. Before coaching at Marshall, Pruett was a coordinator at Florida. You could go on. Sid Gillman is in the Hall with an 81-19-2 record in 10 seasons at Miami (Ohio) and Cincinnati before he moved to the NFL.It will be interesting. If Pruett ever is a Hall subject of discussion, his association with imposed NCAA sanctions surely will be discussed. But those numbers speak loudly.“We’ve been fortunate to have a lot of wins,’’ Pruett said. “Since 1996, Marshall is ahead of them all.’’http://wvgazette.com/section/Sports/2005030951?pt=18
