A lot of you must think Pruett just lied to every one of us in his press conference. I don't. Indeed, I heard him on the radio last night and Vingleberry said something to the effect of most Herd fans would have preferred you to have announced it before the season so they could have dinners, etc. in your honor. Pruett's comment was something to the effect that, while that might be what some people would want, he has no desire for that. What he does have a desire for is spending time with his family.
I don't think he lied. I think he just told us what he wanted us to hear. What he didn't want us to hear, is WHY he decided that this was the time for him to go. You, of all people MAKO, ought to be able to read something into this. Isn't that what all you liberals do? Make mountains out of molehills? :o
Blade, I went back and forth, not once, but twice yesterday. Ask me again tomorrow... but right now, I'm wondering if there isn't a third option here, somewhere between the two.
That is, maybe
both assumptions are correct.
It's apparent from Reynolds comments -- and he has no motive to mislead -- that, yes, he's been considering this pretty strongly even dating back to early last season... and Reynolds indicates that he knew something was up last week... now here's where I'm only guessing, but after the signing day festivities calmed down, I dare say Bobby began thinking about all of this in earnest, and finally said something among friends which included Reynolds... but it appears that Pruett probably gave himself a week to say to himself, "that's my final answer, Regis,"... and sometime on Monday he did that.
Having said all that, there's still a curious piece to the puzzle even here... why didn't Kueck know something earlier... even a day earlier would have made it all seem more on the up-and-up... but, two hours before the press conference???... all I can imagine is that maybe Kueck did know something earlier, but just hadn't officially gotten the ask until then... and thus he didn't want the other coaches -- who now were going to be answerable to him -- to think he had lobbied for the job, and especially with him leapfrogging the associate head coach.
One thing I think we can know, though... Mark Gale isn't a happy camper this morning. And for that matter, this isn't what the rest of the coaching staff "signed up for"... I'm sure they mostly view Kueck as an equal, not someone to answer to, and I dare say there are some sitting at their computers as I write this -- preparing resume's to put in the mail.
