  • Mark contacted  Marshall as soon as the announcement was made. This from a good inside source. I'm still at work. That's why I haven't posted anything else. Team was told at 8:00 am. Will called me at 8:22...meeting did not last long. Will was just trying to absorb everything this morning. But he did say he felt like he had a home, and friends here and was not really entertaining any ideas of leaving.  I think that just goes along with his nature. He is very loyal once he makes a decision. He's a guy I would want in my foxhole during combat. Apparently many players mentioned leaving as a possibility without penalty of losing a year of eligability. I'll try to keep you abreast  of the team atmosphere and emotions.

  • Any player who left would have to sit out a year as a transfer.

  • As I told some other people, I would have Mark in top 5 on my list.  Now he's shown interest.

I hope KO does not make another unilateral decision based on what any individual may want (including Pruett's choice).  Listen yes, but do what's best for the program.

Snyder has a nat'l champ ring, solid experience and is a Marshall guy.  Did anyone watch what Snyder's OSU defense did to Okla. State in bowl game??   He's got the right stuff IMO.  Marshall would be very foolish NOT to form a search committe and go through a due process.  Naming Kueck or any interim coach the head caoch for 2005 by default would be a disaster for MU.  If he wants to be considered than he should...but not annointed without due process.

  • I think Doug Smock made mention in his column today that Kueck would be interim through the 2005 season.  If this is true, then I don't agree with this move and believe this could be disasterous for us in the long run...recruiting, ticket sales, etc.

  • My, my, my.  Let's be a little melodramatic why don't we?  I agree that a full search should be conducted but naming Kueck the coach through the 2005 season is hardly disastrous.  Indeed, it might be considered the best thing because we know we will have stability in the program through spring practice, off-season workouts, into fall practice, and through the season.  At best anyone new would come in after spring practice.  Every coach has his own system and way of coaching and the players would have to try to learn that system in the 3 weeks or so of fall practice before the opening kickoff.  If you're going to bring in someone new, then the time to do that is immediately after the end of the season.  At that time, he can hit the ground running on recruiting and he can give his playbook to returning players before spring practice ever starts.

I disagree.  As far as recruiting, ticket sales, etc., go, this is the perfect time for a changing of the guard.

Exit Bob Pruett, Enter Larry Kueck with Pruett's full support.
Exit Kent State, Enter Kansas State.
Exit little Miami on national television, Enter Southern Mississippi for national television.

If you want to buffer losing athletes in recruiting and less ticket sales, upgrade to a bigger conference and offer a more appealing schedule for both your athletes and fans.  This will give Kueck an opportunity to win hearts and minds or bring somebody in who can do it.
