HUNTINGTON — Just when you think out-of-the-blue running back Devon Johnson can’t outdo himself, he rocks the Marshall record book.

“Rockhead” flew through a gaping hole for a 58-yard touchdown on the Thundering Herd’s first scrimmage play and kept on running, not stopping until his fourth score netted him 272 yards. That set an MU single-game rushing record and helped the Herd hold off Florida Atlantic 35-16 Saturday.

A crowd of 27,236 watched on a nice early evening at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

The big junior from Richlands, Va., scored on runs of 58 and 62 yards to keep the 23rd-ranked Herd in the game in the first half, and then his 66- and 7-yard runs put the plucky Owls away down the stretch.
