RICK McCANNHUNTINGTON -- Probably the best thing coming out of Thundering Herd Madness was Tamar Slay saying he's going back to school.Slay was in town Thursday for the men's basketball preseason event in Cam Henderson Center. He was a Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame inductee in September. The sixth-leading scorer in Marshall history with 1,792 points finished his Herd career in 2002 and went off to play 11 years in the NBA and Europe without a college degree.Slay, a Beckley native living with his wife and two children in Charlotte, N.C., said he's enrolling in online courses to get what he needs for a diploma. He's also developing a business to provide training, competition and exposure for young players.
