By Woody WoodrumHUNTINGTON — The No. 22/23 Marshall Thundering Herd cranked up the team in the second half, shutting out the Owls of Florida Atlantic in the third and fourth quarter with great defense, while back Devon “Rockhead” Johnson put on a running game effort for the ages as Marshall won over FAU, 35-16, to move to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in Conference USA.The Owls, leading by 16-14 at halftime, were held to no points and only one trip to the red zone, reaching the Herd’s 4-yard line before being turned away with a minus-2 run on third and an incomplete pass on fourth down. The Marshall defense, led by senior linebackers Neville Hewitt and Jermaine Holmes — who each recorded 18 total tackles, and combined for 3.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks — held the Owls to just 71 rush yards, 95 pass yards, nine first downs (of 26 total), 2-for-7 on third downs and 0-for-2 on fourth downs to secure the second half win.
