  • I haven't read all the threads, but I'm sure I'm not the first to say that some wins are just impressive because of everything that happened that should have predicted a loss. Clearly, we're a different team without DJ. But we can beat a decent opponent minus him.

Yes, and I don't know about that...I think we are half the team without him....

It's pointless to say this, but I'd bet we win by 2-3 TDs today with DJ 100%....Just not the same team...We feed off his relentlessness and he breaks teams...

    How many 2nd & 10s, 3rd & 10s did we have today?  With DJ it's 2nds & 3s, 1st & 10s

  • Agree. football games are won on first down more than anything. Dictating the plays and formations to follow.

    Side note :

Funny how I can disagree so vehemently with riflearm's HN defense of the coaching staff last week ( 4th and goal from the 6 inch line vs. WKU ). His rationale was it worked to get us to OT -where we lost. First, it would be much easier to follow up with a FG than the TD we did eventually get. But negates that a follow-up TD would win for us in regulation. [ Not to mention having to stop not only a WKU TD but a WKU FG the way we played it. ]

And agree with him on the pass today :

We did the same thing in the GMAC bowl back in 2001 with Bobby P coaching.
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "

I don't honestly believe that the 2 situations could be compared. Either for or against the coaching decision being made at the time. Both at least sort of worked ( to get us to OT ), but 2001 was our only reasonable course of action ...i.e. it was not 4th and goal from the 6-inch line.

  • Good point.  I can't remember the distance on that play in 2001.
