  • Man, what a debatable question.  I for one think Kueck may be the best choice for this year and if he does well and wins 6, 7 or 8 games give him the four year contract tito mentioned.  If he faulters and doesnt win or the team doesnt respond to him then open up the job for all interested candidates and hire the most quailfied.  As for Doc Hiliday...no way!  I dont ever want to see a wvu guy leading our football program.  Ever!

  • I vote "D"... ie, "B" (let Kueck coach 05) and "C" (identify and hire the best guy for 06 now).

    Another thing to think about...

There are no competitors right now for that best guy... there will be competition for him at the end of the season.

But the best reasons for "C" and not to wait are (1) simply that we give up on 05 recruiting if we wait, and, (2) Kueck isn't going to inspire any donors anymore than I myself would... and I can't resist adding... hiring Kueck long-term, we would effectively be "stealing" him from Stephen A. Austin, the only other university in the land who has considered him for their HC position. (Woo woo...)

The best reason for "B" and to make the hire effective at the end of the season is that any positives that come out of spring practice are negated if you have to bring in a new system and teach it in August... and who of us want to sacrifice 05? Having finished 6-6, we have no momentum left too lose, and especially with the first decent home schedule in the history of Herd football.

  • Here's the Question:

"IF WE DON'T THINK AND ACT BIG TIME" "WE'LL NEVER BE BIG TIME"

And big time programs never hire interim coaches for a year and then fire them only to hire a replacement fulltime. We conduct a seach now like we did when Donnan left the program. We didn't hire an interim then.

Don't be surprised if the fund raising and politics are done by a recently retired football coach and Son of Marshall.

The team belongs to Kueck but the program is still Bobby's.

I'm happy with Coach K, but I'd like to say a few good words about Doc.

I went to HS with Doc and he is a good guy and he knows his stuff. He, like some other folks we know, poured his life into his school's program and they turned their back on him. (I don't know any specifics but I think Marshall was generous to D'antoni by comparison.)

My guess is that he wants to show up the powers that be in Morgantown and maybe someday return as favorite son/hero.

For those that want Doc, keep in mind what you are getting. Although a few years in Huntington would make the average person forget Morgantown.

Nice thought, but I'm not sure how it plays out in the execution, Photo.

If I'm the one writing the check, I want to have faith in (a) the one coordinating the recruiting, (b) the one leading the coaching staff, and (c) the one at whose desk the buck stops.
